On Saturday when I was driving our dogs home from a hike we took, I see a tiny Dachshund
running in the middle of the street. I slow down to see if the owner appears and no one comes.
The dog seems disoriented, going from house to house to sniff about. She's wearing tags. I get out of the car and try to lure her to me. She hides. She runs across the street, which luckily is not busy.
I take my dogs home and come back out with a lead trying to corral the dog. When she sees me following her she eludes me and after about 10 minutes and two blocks, winds up on the steps of a house. I ring the bell and ask if they own this dog. The woman is shocked that the dog is not in the house, but totally uninterested in my story of how the dog has been running loose in the street for the last half hour.
