Would you let your dog sleep outside at night?

Our house is so hot at night that Sadie hates to come in and go to bed. If she had her way she would stay out all night. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet because she is only 3 months old. If she does start sleeping outside at night to you think it will make it harder to crate train her again this winter?

I wouldn't let a 3 month old puppy stay outside unsupervised. There's so much that could happen during the night (or anytime) that I wouldn't consider it.

Have you thought about a Air Conditioner?

I have a Miniature Schnauzer of 9 yrs old, & a Australian Shepherd of 12 yrs old. I don't allow my dogs be kept outdoors all night. Anything could happened during the night when everyone is sound asleep!

Misty & Lacey go outside to do their business, to play outside that's all, then they return inside safe & sound!!

If it was my 3 month old pup, I wouldn't let him sleep outside..... There's just too many things that could happen. Esp. with all those stories about people stealing dogs from backyards.....  But the airconditioner idea is a great one!! Just get a small one to place in a small room. That should keep your pup comfy for the rest of the summer!~

I would say at this point she's too young to be outside alone.  However, I'm not completely against it forever assuming that she is the sort of breed that is equiped to be outside and your yard is set up the right way.

In the meantime, I don't know if you are crating her or what, but I'd gate her in an area with his things, an area easily cleaned up if necessary rather than crate if it's really hot.  I used to watch my good friends lab pretty often when he was a puppy and if it was really warm we didn't crate him.

We have A/C but believe it or not, Willow doesn't like it.  She rather be on the hardwood floor in another room.  You could use a fan instead if you can't afford A/C too.  I leave extra water out too when it's hot.

I've found none of my dogs cared to be around the AC either (neither do I!).

I would get a window fan and let it blow in on her at night so that she gets a similiar feel to being outside. If she's also crated, you may want to remove any bedding from within the crate as it could make her hot as well.

A metal crate will be much cooler than the plastic ones.  You can buy cooling mats to help keep her cool and the window fan should help bring int he cooler nite air if you can't afford an air conditioner.

My youngest gsd is 11 months and I still won't let them sleep outside.

The only way my dogs would sleep outside at night is if I slept outside with them, otherwise they'd, God forbid, be more than 2 feet away from me.

If I had a large outdoor farm dog and lived on a farm setting, I would let it sleep outside, as long as it had access to a barn or shelter.

Hey! To me the issue of it making her training harder would be the least of my worries. I would fear more for her safety especially at such a young age. Like someone else suggested if at all possible try investing ina smaller a/c unit you could even put it in your room that way it not all benefits the dog but you aswell. We are fortunate to have central a/c an I know that if we didn't as hot as it gets here there is no way I would be able to sleep with out it. G'luck!

No way would I ever let my little darling outside all night, never in a million years.

I wouldn't!! Sara is way over a year and I know for sure she would rather sleep outside. She would rather live outside. But I wont let her. We have fans in the house. The ceiling fans  are always on, and I have stand up fans. She finds a cool spot on the tile and will sleep there once in a while. Even though it's warm in the house she prefers to sleep in the middle of the hall way gaurding the kids bedroom doors.[:D]

Heck, we have central air.  Haven't had it on yet for us, but last weekend it was in the 90's and we had to go to the OLD house to clean and mow and since the dogs were going to be crated, we flipped it on for THEM.  So far tho, when the house gets too warm for ME I just flip on the attic fan for a few minutes and let THAT pull the heat out.  But for the dogs, with us going to be gone all day, THEY got the AC!

No way...wouldn't let him sleep outside! We have a pack of 15 Coyotes that roam around our streets at night!!! He is inside. We had ceiling fans installed to keep a/c costs down during the summer!

Even if I have a backyard, there is no way I'm allowing my baby to sleep outside.  3 month old is very young.  Do you have a/c?

I don't like having dogs sleep outside no matter how old they are.  I just don't like it.  If your dog's bed is too hot, try putting a standing fan or two to cool the room down a bit.  If you have A/C move your dogs bed next to a vent.
