And what kind of peanut butter should I use? Can I use Skippy Creamy PB? • schleide Posted : 6/4/2006 7:36:13 PM Or, you could fill the whole thing with food that is good for her:  brown rice, yogurt, carrots, apples, low fat cottage cheese, pumpkin puree (not pie filling, actual pumpkin), some kibble, peanut butter...   We fill it up with a mix of the above, or whatever dog safe foods we've got on hand and freeze them... then give them to your pup to chew on and it should take a while to get all the good stufff out!!  Kongs are a great addition to most doggie households!! 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. • Brian Berry Posted : 6/4/2006 7:38:14 PM I put in home made dog biscuits.  But im sure most store-bought biscuits will work.  just make sure it fits in kinda tightly so it takes the dog lots of chewing and work to get it out.  Don't put anything that falls out easily.   I usually stick a few medium-sized biscuits in them, and kinda wedge them in so they cant come out easily.   Im sure someone else here can direct you to a store bought biscuit or treat that works well. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. • cyclefiend2000 Posted : 6/4/2006 7:40:41 PM our ac was on the fritz last week when the temps were soaring. i tried putting water in the kongs and sealing the ends with pb. the ends seemed to be sealed, but at some point in the freezing process almost all the water leaked out. one of the kongs was almost empty and the other one was like a solid block of ice. not sure what i did wrong. best i could do is fill their water bowls with ice water.  0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. • Benedict Posted : 6/4/2006 7:51:02 PM Just wanted to say that Ben had his first properly stuffed Kong today and loved it.  I filled it with his kibble, 2 tiny puppy treats, a really teeny piece of fresh roast beef in the middle to get his nose twitching and some little carrot pieces.  I plugged the little end with peanut butter and the larger end with low-fat cream cheese.  That was his lunch, and I think he loved having to work for it.  Couldn't get him out of his crate for love nor money until he had finished every last morsel.   Kate 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. • calliecritturs Posted : 6/4/2006 10:36:42 PM Dogs absolutely love peanut butter but I'm going to play devil's advocate here and tell you that it's really NOT all that good for them.  It's a vegetable oil that isn't really digestible and it's tough on the kidneys in a big way.    OCCASIONALLY my dogs get a mite of peanut butter but nothing like 'regularly'.    Tahini - you can get that at the grocery store, usually in the ethnic foods or the Jewish foods.  It's sesame 'butter' and is far easier for them to digest and in fact, good for them.  Now you still don't want to use a ton, but it is a darned good substitute and they like it.    Try ricotta cheese (and I use whole milk ricotta -- they need a certain amount of animal fat) -- it's a good calcium for them.    Braunschweiger is also a yummy alternative -- it can add some variety and it's got liver in it. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available.
