The clinic I worked for used a black light for immediate results of ringworm,,,did your vet do that?

Yes, she did and got no results but said 50% of the time the test is negative even though there is ringworm. She said the definitive test was to pull hair from around an area that looks suspicous and send it for testing.  I don't know what that test involves.   I don't think she was trying to just sell me on a test that wasn't necessary because it only cost $25.00.  You aren't the first person to ask me about the blacklight test.  I didn't know that not all strains show up that way.  Learn something new everyday.   I think your neighbor Brian sounds like a great guy. :)   I hope Roxy has a great long life with him.

I don't know if they do either Jackie...but that vet did that all the time first..now whether she also sent for testing if there was question... I don't know. But for Gibby when he was a baby he had some skin issue when I brought him home and I took him for a checkup and when I asked about the skin thing she JOKINGLY said " probably ringworm" and laughed as she got the black light out and took him in the back room.......and it ended up looking like it was!!!!  So very funny doc....lol!   But... the thing is...she then gave me a bottle Miconazole Nitrate Shampoo to use at least once a day.  He was fine after a few weeks.

He really has stepped up to the place with Roxy. I have'nt talked with him for a while...but I do see him coming and going with her in the back seat quite a bit...I assume he is heading to the DP.  When I saw her running and running last night..... I thought to myself that she must need to work off energy.

Bad thing is........... we live in a cluster home community... our association takes care of our lawns and our lawns are quite small both front and back ( YES I HAVE A GREAT DANE HERE lol ) and when she was running so much last night she wrapped herself around a tree in the back...I walked over to unwrap her and EEKS...doesn't look like any piles of doggy doo have been picked up in a long time.......wonder how long it will be before the lawn people complain.........and DH is the prez.............................  wish I could figure out how to jump ahead of the problem...but I should not even be in his yard besides the fact that except for seeing them in the car...I never see him to talk to him.

Just FYI we treat ringworm here at home...with OTC Tinactin or similar. They sell it at CVS. I have had a few well, okay, MANY of my foster kitties come in with it. The Tinactin works quickly and well...and it is cheaper and less bother than a vet visit.

Our old Buckwheat came up with it as a pup on her belly and we used the spray powder version and it was gone in a really short amt of time.

Just putting that out there for posterity!

Thanks for the info, Gina.  It's a bit late for this puppy because she's getting her last dip treatment this morning as we speak. lol  I will keep this info handy for future reference.

NP! I have treated some LEETLE kitties and I always prefer to spot treat rather than dunk them because I do worry about the affects of that. We had an Akita once that needed a Mitaban dip for demodex and that did HORRIBLE things to her system for hours after. She was so dopey etc.

I just wanted to post it in case anyone does a search on RINGWORM...more than anything else. Your puppy is cute BTW...I'd missed this whole development. Is she some kinda Dobe or Min Pin X I guess? love her penciled toes!
