I don't know if there would be any extra precautions with toy breeds, but I would imagine you would nuetur them later, rather than very young, just to make sure they were full size for easier surgery - which he is at now.
I would definately nuetur now. I waited till mine was two and 1/2, but I think it should have been done about 1 1/2 years because he did start developing a tendency to mark inside the house. I don't believe in early nuetering (below 6 months) if you are absolutely sure that the dog absolutely, absolutely, would not ever be lose to mate.
I think this is a perfect time. He might start marking territory more as he gets older, and whenever he does smell a female in heat, then he will do WHATEVER it takes to get to her -- and that includes maybe hurting himself to get "out". Also, they do tend to be more aggressive toward other males and other males will fight him when they smell him because they "know" he still has the "stuff" to mate and that makes him a competitor. So, he is safer from unwanted attacks from other male dogs. It also eliminates testicular cancer.
