I can't believe I did it!

Oh good luck!  I hope she comes home to you!
    • Gold Top Dog
Awwww!! How sweet. She sure did make a lasting impression didn't she?

I pray it all works out.

Ooooh  San, keeping fingers and paws crossed for you and Dolly.

Take Tanker to meet her on neutral territory.

Thank for the good thoughts, everyone.  No news yet...

Anne, I think the rescue will probably want us all to drive up and will probably require that I bring both dogs.  I don't think this rescue does home visits, as they will adopt to anyone within a 500 mile radius as long as you are willing to go pick the dog up.  I'm just kind of concerned that Tanker will do is usual "macho dog I would love to kill you act" and make a very bad first impression.  I muzzle him but it is  more for my fears than for fear he will actually hurt another dog.  I think he may do this because he was neutered so late in life (he was six) and the need to be top dog that was driven biologically until that time has become a pattern of behavior for him, even though he has been neutered for five years now...  I really think that it is all just bluster.  I walk Tanker in the park with a friend who has a huge male dog and every single time we walk, the two muzzled dogs see each other, lunge at one another, make a lot of noise and after five minutes walk peacefully next to one another.  Although,  with a smaller female (without pricked ears) Tanker may not react in an aggressive looking way, so I might be worried over nothing...

The rescue called!!!  The foster mom is real busy this weekend (her son is in a hockey tournament) so she is not doing any adoption work but she told me she is going to call my vet Monday (I have to call first and let them know they have my permission to speak with her) to check and make sure all my pets are sputered and up to date on their shots (they are) and next weekend we can all go up and meet Dolly!  If all goes well, she'll come home with us!!!  I did tell the foster mom that Tanker may not be very nice at first and she said that she has seen dogs like that before and is well aware that they will have to work out their pack order.  I'm feeling pretty good about this!

The foster mom also said that Dolly is more beagle-like than border collieish.  This is fine with me- she'll get along great with Roxy, who is a doxie/beagle mix who also acts more beagley.

And Dolly has only been with her for a little over a week and is staying in her "dog room" with two puppies, so she is not positive that Dolly is potty trained.  I may have a little work to do, but I'm fine with that.  You'll all help me, won't you?

Keep your fingers crossed for another week for us!

    That's excellent, Sandra!
How great to have success so quickly!

I'm sure your dogs will help Dolly get housetrained. It's always so much easier with dogs who clue in the newbie as to what to do. Congratulations!

Congratulations on your new Dolly!  Can't wait to hear her life unfold.

Oh, what a sweetheart!!  [:D]  Goodluck, I hope it works out!  Fingers and paws crossed her for ya!

She is a little Cutie. I'd already seen her actually. I was like wow, that dog looks familiar, when I went to your link. She's up in my neck of the woods...a rescue not far from where I am. Good luck.

Thats right, Maureen, she's up by you.  I can't believe the number of adoptions that that rescue has made in just the few years they have been around- and they sound like a small operation.  Talk about dedication- my hats off to them.

This week is just gonna crawl by for me...!

Update!  Foster mom told me when we talked last Saturday that she would call my vet Monday and then get in touch with me Monday night to arrange a meeting time.  Didn't hear anything.  Made myself wait until Tuesday night 8:00 PM to call (don't want to be too pushy!) but got her machine and left a message (thank goodness I rehearsed what I wanted to say before I called- sometimes I sound so stupid when I have to leave a message!).  Had an email waiting for me at work this morning- Foster mom talked with my vet and heard good things (of course she would, even my rat Serendipity has been vetted!) and wants to have everyone meet on Saturday!!!  She's going to call tonite to arrange the details.  I'm sitting here starring at the phone, willing it to ring...  Now I just have to convince Tanker to be nice!

I took next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off from work and my husband took Thursday and Friday off so that someone would be home all week, in case we get her!

Don't uncross your fingers and paws yet!

Are phones like watched pots?  They never ring when you want them too. [:D]

    Come on phone  RING already!!!

    I am excited for you.

Tomorrow is the day!!!  We'll be meeting Dolly at 11:30 am EST.  I bet I don't get a wink of sleep tonite, I'm so excited!

My daughter wants to change her name to Zoey.  We'll try it on for size for a few days...  Tonite I bought her a new collar (red) and made a P-touch label at work with our phone number on it- don't want her a minute without ID just in case she escapes from us (will get her a tag when we decide on a name for sure)... Bought another tether strap and have a seat belt harness that I think will fit her (it was a little big for Roxy and I never returned it- glad now that I didn't) for the car ride home.  I'll also bring a camera, too.  Am I forgetting anything?
