What color is your brown dog?

What color is your brown dog?

This relates mostly to purebreds, who have a specific name for the colors.  For instance, my brown Collies are "sable".  But if they were another breed, they could be fawn, red, liver, rust, etc.  You get the point.  So, what color is your brown dog??

Well, I don't have a brown dog but I want to play,  so I'm gonna.  [;)]

Willow gets called black all the time when she's blue.

Can Brown just be brown? It's much easier that way...darn dogs and all their colors...I'm never naming dogs after crayons again![sm=biggrin.gif]

Delilah is black and TAN (when her tan isn't tan at all, it's more of a reddish-brown)
Brown labs  are called chocolate... would that be a dog for someone who suffers from constant PMS? (That's what I always said about ours before he died)

    Fun post, colliewog!
    My "brown" dogs are:
Yorkshire Terrier - tan & blue
Redbone x English Foxhound - "hound red" with a bit of white and some red ticking on his chest and paws
Aussie mix - "red tri" which is really deep liver, with copper points and a bit of white on the chest and toes
Aussie - "red merle" (very dark liver merle with a touch of white on the toes and chest, just enough that she is not a self merle) - If you go to [linkhttp://www.rhardinsaussies.com]www.rhardinsaussies.com[/link] there are some photos of red merles like her.  She isn't the kind you see in the show ring with the big white collars and tons of hair...she's from working lines, and the red is a bit different!

    Lori,
Hi, I'm Dancer, and I'm black and white - but for the purposes of this game, you could call me blue and white (just kidding, Willow), or at 17, I suppose I'm faded to dark brown when you look at me in the sun!  I'm definitely in the minority here with all these "brown" dogs. [:D]

"Brown" in a Beagle is 'Tan', unless it is unusually intense in which case it is termed "red".

Beagles with no black and of a reddish tone...are called "tan & white", "red &" white", or "lemon & white" depending on the "depth" and "heat" of the color.

The most interesting color terms I have heard are 'deadgrass' in Chessies...and 'stag red' in MinPins. Also...'wild boar' in Dachshunds...

Boss is what I call chocolate brown with fawn in his brindle coloring.

Gracie's brown isn't really brown, but more cream.

Maya is fawn and white.   A very light fawn, she's actually deer (white-tailed) colored.

I wasn't trying to leave you out, it's just "brown" is the most common color to have different names from what I've seen.

I do this periodically when people tell me they like the "fawn" colored Collies.

On the other hand, the way I got Stevie was he started following my son at school. Ole called me up and said, "Mom, can we have another dog?"

"What kind of dog?" I asked.

    "A brown dog," he replied.

    I immediately said YES.

To this day I have no idea WHY being brown was so important to both of us! LOL He could have said, a big dog, a rottweiler kind of dog, a brown and tan dog, whatever. But nope. He just said "a brown dog" and that was some kind of weird communication that was just so right! [:D]

    Jasmine is light brown.
    Indy is deadgrass.
Not very glamorous color names for the Chessies.
