JQP and breeds

I have heard so many mixes for Blue. Now people don't really say husky that much when they look at him unlike the shepherd part of him.

    Cocker Spaniel
    Wolf
    Coyote/ german shepherd mix
Corgi (shelter came up with that one)
    lab
    Albino bordercollie
    GSD/Doberman Pincher

All of these are making me laugh but I have to say that the basenji-as-small-deer has me in hysterics.  [sm=rofl.gif]

I've mentioned this before, but folks have asked me about 300 times about my Greyhound.  Also got a disdainful look from some old folks sunbathing at the beach and overheard one say "That's one of those Rottweilers."  Which is equally as unlikely, given her tall slender build and the fact that another beach-goer assumed she was a deer running on the beach.
Yep, me and my pet deer... ?!?

LOL, I've gotten, "What is that?" too. I usually say, "A dog." and walk away, letting them wonder.

I've had people ask me what Boss is, when I tell them they say.. really??? Well, uh yeah I'm pretty sure! I've also gotten the comment he's an interesting color for a lab (which I could pass that one off with my insurance company!).

Gracie is pretty easy and they say husky or shepard. Hee hee, she's both!

Come to think of it, maybe people around here just aren't very dog savvy. I know a woman who has wolf mixes, they are illegal here but she passes them off as shepards.

When my Jessie, a husky is with me, kids love her ....but they are a little off....

Hey did you know she's got a brown eye and a blue eye?
Snow dog snow dog !!!!!...right? She is a snow dog,....right?
    Is she a wooof?

Can I pet her? (sometimes accompanied by the nearest adult blocking the kids
hand from reaching to pet her....she might bite....you know wooooof dogs might
    bite)

    Adults:
What kinda German shepherd is she
    Is that an Alaskan
    He's a Malmoot
    Cyber Husky
Oh, that's a Siberian Malamute isn't it I had one of those once....(and you don't know what kind of dog it was?)

    Oooooh a Sibe [:@]  eeewww

Most people seem to know she's a SIBERIAN HUSKY and most people love to pet her. One lady at the checkout in Pet---- just hugged and petted and fussed over her.... I began to wonder if she was going to have an out of body experience.  Kidding aside Jessie just seems to exude a special something that draws people in.....

One of my dogs, Zarrah, was posted as a Chow mix at the shelter I got her from. Haha!

Oh I forgot to say the one that annoys me the most - because DOG people do it most often.  "Oh, a BORDER!  I've been thinking of getting a BORDER!"  Borders are tough, scruffy brown terriers.  They've had the nickname "border" for much longer than the BC and they are welcome to it.

Calling a BC a "Border" drops off the important part - the part that indicates the dog's function, "coollie" being an old lallans word for "useful".  It's a mark of pride or a compliment to call a sheepdog  a "useful dog" (coolie taegh in the old language) and sometime a couple of centuries ago these "useful dogs" became simply "collies".  In the land of their origins they are still just called collies and a Border is definitely a little brown terrier dog.

I know people mean well but I want to throw something at people who know better and still do it.

Gypsy has been called a Boxer (I could see this waaay more if she were all RED!), a Staffy Bull, a Pit mix and several other things.  The thing that always gets me is when people ask if they can pet HIM.  HIM??? Hello, SHE has a short coat and it's not hiding a penis, so how can you NOT tell she's a bitch???

A number of the bc folk I hang around with will call them black and white dogs, and laugh when they say it around the cardis in the group [;)]

Sally's been called a Staffordshire, pit/pit mix, boxer/boxer mix, American Bull Dog, a Cane Corso Mix, and MY personal favorite, a pit bull/pug mix!

And yeah, I get the "he" things all the time too.....[8|]

One of the nicest compliments I've gotten about her were in regards to breed though--I had her in this foo-foo pet boutique and these middle aged, well-off looking women came into the store.  My first thought was that they would recoil as soon as they saw her, but they didn't.  They commented on how pretty she was and asked what breed she was.  I told them that were were not sure but we thought she had some pit or staffy in her.  Then one woman said, "Well, she looks so noble she should be her very own breed."  It was a wonderful feeling, especially being a new pittie owner and hearing some of the more hurtful remarks that come out of people's mouths.[:D]
