    Hot days...........

How do you keep your dog cool during the summer?  [&:]

Well Dasher, our JRT has a baby pool which he loves, he will jump in after we play [:D] Lille, our black lab is 12, she will not get in the pool and tends to get hot quickly. For her, I just limit her time outside. She doesn't fetch anymore as her back legs don't work like they used to and too much play will make her sore. Lille would rather stay in the A/C most of the summer anyway. [;)]

It doesn't get TOO hot where we live.  A day in the high 90's is considered rare.

I usually give them some icecubes in their waterbowl.  They have a plastic sled outside that I fill with water.  It's not very deep, but at least they can get their bellies wet if they choose to lay in it.

A couple summers ago, my dad got in his head the crazy idea that we should shave our Pomeranian to help him keep cool during the summer.... Let's just say he looked so ridiculous after the haircut that we never tried it again. [&:]

Blue gets ice in his water and fans are blowing in our windows. Sometimes I freeze a bottle with water in it and place them near them.

It gets very hot here during the summer.  Mack drinks lots of water even when it's not hot out.  I'm gonna hose him down and keep him out of the sun.  He has a weird way of drinking water:  he dunks half his muzzle in the water and gets a great big gulp.  He doesn't lap very much; I think it slows him down.  I think he must consume about one gallon of water per day on average.  Jules

Maddi gets to go swimming and play with the hose a lot. [:D]

I also give her ice cubes, and, when she's outside, I try to keep her out of the sun.

We put out a baby pool, put ice cubes in his water, and he likes to run in the sprinklers!

A/C!  Seriously, we only go outside in the early morning and later afternoon, otherwise they stay inside during the heat of the day.  I do not attend outdoor competitions if the weather is higher than 80 (actually 75 if I can help it), otherwise we stick to indoor venues.

I make ice in sherbert containers for Mick's water dishes.  He also has a Canine Cooler bed under the diningroom table, and we have a great tower type fan blowing in the livingroom.  I keep "wet down towels" in the freezer, too.  They're towels that are cut like horse blankets.  The idea is to soak them in water and put them over the dog.  I found it easier to run the bunch of them through a cold rinse in the washer, then put each one in a 2 gallon zipper freezer bag and keep them in the freezer.  They are nice to have as a back up "bed" for Mick to lay on.  When it gets really hot, I take Mick outside and hose him off.  Oh, and can't forget the ice cream!  Every once in awhile we'll take Mick to Dairy Queen in the evening.

Both of mine learned quickly to lay in front of the fan. I limit their time outside and yesterday brought the A/C up from the basement. Boss likes it when I open the big garage door and he will go in there and lay on the cool concrete, Gracie likes to dig a hole in the dirt under the deck and lay in it.

The cats lay on my bed upstairs during the day where I leave the fan on, there is also a fan in the 'cat room' which is my second bedroom set up for them to get away from the dogs.

For the fish I turn the heater down and will drop some ice cubes in if it gets too warm in there, or take some water out and replace it with cooler water.

Besides staying indoors where the ac is turn on mostly during the summer.  I been avoiding taking her out during the day time.  Though we do go out during the night and walk around the neightborhood.  I'm just thinking of ways to cool her off during our walks.  Maybe a spray bottle of ice cool water might help.  hehehe...[&:]

According the the bank in town, it was 91 earlier. So, we haven't been staying out long. We also have a little kiddie pool out in the back yard. Millie won't get in it, but Max will walk in it, or I take him to the park and let him walk in the water. Millie doesn't stay out long enough to have a problem with the heat though.

91............ekkkkkk!!  It was like 70 something here and It still bother me.  I'm not a fan of hot weathers. [&:]  I wish I got a swimming pool and so JJ and I could swim around and cool off.

I live in Floor-da like Colliwog so we mostly stay inside.  This weekend was the Zellwood Corn Festival and that's the Central Floridian trigger to STAY INSIDE til the middle of October or November!  (No joke -- from this weekend on there is NOTHING to do -- it's too darned hot).

But even in 'winter' here the sun can be brutal, so we **always** take a big golf umbrella anywhere, and put it up and lay it on the ground so the dogs can crawl under and have shade.  Water, water, water -- we always take a small cooler with us so we have MANY bottles of water (for dogs and humans) and I just live with a bowl in my purse all the time.

Today my girlfriend (who is in western NY state) was grumbling that she'd just mowed her lawn and it "has to be 80 out".  I went out the door which is shaded by a big tree, and looked at the thermometer my husband nailed to the tree.  99 degrees *in the shade* and that was late afternoon -- like just about 5 p.m.

    Anyone feeling cooler now??

calliecritturs - you deserve a ice cream for the hottest number.........
[&:]  I been taking cold shower to cool off.........I hate humid weather......I think if the sun gets any stronger, I will have to carry a umbrella while outside.
