    Monday, mindless Monday

Ronnie James Dio, rest in peace.

My son called me last night to tell me he (RJD) had passed away. I didn't think DS knew who the guy was.

DS also told me earlier in the day that a girl he went to the latch key program with in 4th-5th grade died in a horrible car accident on Friday, which apparently involved another teen driver and a Corvette going at a high rate of speed.  The girl was supposed to graduate high school in 2 weeks.  Keeping the family in my prayers.

Okay, so I went to the shelter yesterday to walk dogs.  We're packed, as usual.  A red male Dobie seemed to take a real shine to me.  Must resist...cannot afford another dog right now.

The Budweiser Clydesdales will be here in town on Thursday.  I love horses and hope I have a chance to go watch them prep for the mini-parade.

My body is achy all over between working out and hiking for SAR! I need to sit in the hot tub in a big way.

I also need to seriously kick out some work this week.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa last morning at the beach Crying

My too tired to do anything (last night) puppy, woke up at 5:30 sniffed the sea air and grabbed a toy before heading to the door. LOL who needs healthy knees!  BTW he has been so incredibly well behaved - I suppose as he approaches 5 he's actually entering adulthood ha ha ha

We've had a relaxing break and totally lucked out with the weather.  It appears we'll hit rain on the way home - I hope our home has had plenty of rain as the yard was desperate.

DH is cleaning up from breakfast, I've packed and we'll have a final walk and play and be off Crying

My body is aching today too.  I tried to wash dirt off last night only to realize the dirt was a new series of bruises!  Oppps.

Everything has been moved with the exception of a few small things.  This morning I got the fridge and freezer transferred to the RV, took out the tail end of the kitchen and am impatiently waiting for my guys to wake up.  I'm sure it will be a bit since it's only 7AM.  I was actually going to lay back down after a 5:30 bathroom trip, but Sheba had taken my spot and I didn't want to make her move.  Was easier to just get moving!  Although.....I thot of the song "Cecila" as I stumbled out to start the coffee!!

Once the guys are ready to go, will put propane in the RV and go over to our friends.  Not sure how quickly I'll have internet again, so might not be back until evening or even morning.  Good thots and vibes to all who need them.  Have a great Monday!

Glenda, good luck with the move.

I know we previously discussed not wearing red to weddings, but I bought this dress [http://www.zappos.com/jessica-simpson-js0w1748-cranberry] at Marshall's and I am thinking about wearing it to the wedding that I have to go to next weekend. Technically, it's cranberry, right? Ladies?

    • Gold Top Dog

Meg - I think that dress is really cute and totally appropriate for a spring wedding.

I have to admit I had no idea who Ronnie James Dio was.

We had a nice "Q" yesterday with the family to welcome Kate home for the summer.

I also had a very happy reunion with Mr. Goose this weekend.

On Friday night a house a few miles away exploded and it basically made our house "jump".  They say it was possibly a natural gas leak, but everyone knows it's totally a meth lab.  Which prompted me to write this (very un-PC) poem.  All of these things have been true for me.

You know you *almost* live in the ghetto when....

    * A meth lab explodes and your house shakes.
    * Parking on your front lawn is perfectly acceptable.
    * Driving across the lawn to get out your neighbor's driveway is also acceptable.
    * Some random college student is checking your mailbox (and all the boxes up and down the street) for his last paycheck.
    * "Who's your landlord?" is a common conversation starter.
    * You routinely check the PSOR (Public Sex Offender Registry), with good reason.
    * The house on the corner is being auctioned.
    * There was a fatal stabbing less than a block away but you're not scared because that was a "domestic incident".
    * You recognize the Comcast kid that shuts the cable on/off.
    * Drunk drivers apparently seek out the electric pole that controls your power grid.
    * Using the air conditioning unit is just too much work.
    * Instead of fixing the 8 inch deep potholes and 6 foot deep sink hole in the road, the city puts down some orange cones.
    * You think you know who stole your bike.
    * Your security is more a function of your German Shepherd's bark than the locks on your doors.
    * Your neighbors have to ask your permission to shut the water off temporarily.
    * You get more mail for two dozen strangers than for yourself.
    * You spend more time picking up Taco Bell litter than landscaping.
    * Wood paneling covers at least 50% of house's interior.
    * If you have a sink garbage disposal, you're on the up and up.
    * You can't pass up watching a house fire, within walking distance (but driving distance, that's straight up ghetto).

A red male Dobie seemed to take a real shine to me.

If you ever tell Bevo or Cher that I said this, I will deny it wholeheartedly but, IMO, red boys are the absolute best.  Don't get me wrong, I love my black & tan boy with all my heart.  He's my heart dog, & having him has taught me so much about myself, & how I handle my dogs, but, if tomorrow, I found myself in search of a dobe, I would actively look for a red boy.  They just seem to have the sweetest personalities.

I really wanted to stay in bed this morning.  Maybe coffee will help.

ETA: Lies, I think that I've lived in your neighborhood when I was younger.  Sadly, some of your list could also go on the "you know you live in the country" list.

    • Gold Top Dog

I feel like I'm still living like I'm in college, since that's basically the neighborhood.  I work for a college so it is convenient.  The kids can be wild at times, but generally are at least safe (not dealing drugs and running brothels like the neighborhood where I was raised!).  Not in the country though, I can hear my neighbors fart.  Very much in the city, never a dull moment.

Deb, I had no idea who that Ronnie dude was either.  I'm glad you had a good weekend and a reunion with your beloved Kate and the goose. :)

Tina, I love the Clydesdales.  They used to be at our rodeo every year but Budweiser lost their exclusive beer rights so they don't come here any more. :(   There are some draft horses but there's nothing like watching the Clydes get all rigged up for a performance.

I met a lady Saturday who told me her friend had one of those rusty looking Dobermans. lol   She said her friend shows him all over the country, very wide eyed and amazed, she was.  She was also asking me about JRT's.  She has two cats who have NEVER been around dogs.  I hopefully talked her out of the JRT  (she fell in love with the breed based on a cute commercial) and into a Pap.  I'm sure her cats will thank me.  I suggested she go to the dog show coming up in June.  I also met another woman who had a lab trained by my brother years and years ago.  It's a small world sometimes.

I best get busy.  No one seems to be doing my job for me.  Drat.

I was so tired this morning, but I did manage to make it out the door. I'm supposed to go to the zoo tomorrow, but it's supposed to rain, so we don't know if that's going to happen. It's only supposed to be light off and on, so I would still go. I was planning to go with a friend and the kids she is babysitting (who I have known also for several years). We're going to wait and see whether they would want to go in the rain. We didn't tell them yet, because we didn't want them to be disappointed if we didn't get to go.

Lies, my DH got an email from a friend that started "You know you're from upstate NY when...." OMG it was too funny- and TRUE! Tina, DH's boss has a male, red Dobe- they've only ever owned Dobes for 30+years- and he's an absolute sweetheart. I *almost* thought about getting a Dobe from their breeder before I got Apollo. And I love the Clydesdales! I go to the St.Patty's parade every year in South Boston and I always look for them! Today isn't too busy, thank doG, because I haven't had a full day off going on 5 weeks. Ugh. I need a vacation, and the one we're planning is an active vacation (not a relaxing)....so basically, I'm going to need a vacation *after* my vacation! Hope everyone has a good day!

One of the women from another department just came up to me so that I could meet her "mini doberman."  Does anyone want to know how bad I hate the words "mini doberman"?  It's like hearing fingernails rake across a chalk board.  Possibly even worse.  I attempted to be nice & let her know that dobes & min pins are not related..AT ALL, but she refused to hear it.  I lost all patience when she informed me that "The lady at the pet shop where I bought him said that he was a miniature doberman.  Who do you think I should believe?  You or her?"  I made her cry.

Now, my assistant is in the process of locating info on min pins, & the reasons that you shouldn't buy from a pet store, so that I can email it to her.  I'm also going to send her info on training, because god knows she'll need it.

Ha my neighborhood is worse ;p The stabbing murder thing.....yeah.

Finally got my windshield fixed. Only cost me $30 because the windshield company paid $70 of the deductible. Gotta love that!

I haven't been posting much lately - consumed with other things - but I have been reading here and there and sending good thoughts to those who could use a few extra.

I'm currently trying to find a place to live for grad school, and it is TOUGH. Almost everyone lives in campus housing, at least for their first year, and campus housing is plentiful, nice, and super cheap. Only, surprise surprise, no pets allowed. And out of the off-campus options, I would say 2 out of every 3 say "no pets." I'm thinking about buying a place, but every place I've found near campus is way more expensive than I'd like to pay. I'm worried about getting a place too far from campus, because what if I need to run home to let Rascal out to pee? I will have "flexible hours" in grad school, but I don't yet know what that means, or how much I will be able to work from home vs. need to put in time in the office.

So do I consider buying the nicer property (say, with a fenced yard!!!) farther out from campus, and consider it will be a 30 minute commute each way and Rascal will have to be left alone for longer periods of time (which he is NOT used to), or do I try to cram us both in a tiny, super-city apartment where he's going to be tormented by lots of noise (which will then make him bark) and where every pee break will be surrounded by lots of people milling in the streets (which he hates, but could probably get used to eventually), but I get to spend more time with him and come home during lunch, etc.? Arrrrrrgh.

I don't care how responsible you are - having a dog, when you are a young and not-yet-settled person, is HARD.

That aside, BF and I are almost definitely going on a big huge "this is the last time we'll be together for a really long time so we're going to celebrate while we can" trip to Japan!!!! I'm so excited!!!!!

Liesje, sorry about the, erm, "gas leak." Eeek!

Glenda, sending you lots of employment thoughts!!

Tina, sending you lots of good thoughts also.

Meg, if it were me I might try to find a dress in a little more muted color or a "softer" pattern. Of course maybe it's just me, because I tend to not like red anyway. ;) I'm sure nobody will mind no matter what you pick!
