Congratulations. As a kid, I enjoyed flying. As an adult, post 9-11-01, I'm not that wild about it. Flying last Sept.to New Jersey was the first time in nearly 30 years. But we were flying to see my wife's daughter get married and that was more important than any misgivings I had. We flew on a MD-80 (?). Nearly a commuter size but the actual flight time from DFW to Newark was only 2.5 hours.
Martial arts training helped me to control my breathing and distracting myself with reading, word search puzzles, or talking to passengers but, yeah, until touchdown at either place, I was aware of my own edginess. And if a passenger were to try and do something dangerous or terrorist-like, I would instantly break them into little pieces suitable for storage in the overhead. My determination was that we were going to have a safe flight either way. And we did. And after a while, I was able to enjoy the experience of flight again.
And lots of doggy slobbers for your new dog.
