DH & I were supposed to be having a romantic weekend. We had a nice ride down last night, & were having a nice time this morning, but Bevo decided that he needed us home a little sooner than planned.
Today at around noon, our petsitter calls, with Bevo screaming in the background, to tell me that Bevo has just had something happen to his eye while they were playing in the yard, & that she was taking him to the e-vet. DH & I grabbed our stuff & made a flying trip home. (The two hour drive took us an hour & twenty minutes today.)
The e-vet saw something wrong with Bev's eye, but couldn't tell exactly what it was without knocking him out. They knocked him out & found that something was stuck in & through his cornea. The e-vet on duty was afraid to try to remove whatever it was, so he called an opthamologist who works at a clinic close the them. The opthamologist was kind enough to come over, even though he was seeing patients, to check Bevo's eye. He pulled out, what he believes to be, a bee stinger from Bev's eye.
Bev has an ulcer on his cornea from rubbing on his eye like a fool while he was being taken to the e-vet, but otherwise, he is doing fine. He recovered from anesthesia with no problems. It's obvious that his eye is hurting, but he's happily snuggled up next to me on the couch.
DH & I have came to the conclusion that Bevo cannot be left with others. He seems to have "accidents" when we are away, so from here on out, he can come with us.
When DH & I went on our honeymoon, he hit a tree head on fracturing his scapula, some ribs, & setting off our journey into wobblers. Last April, we went to Vegas for a long weekend, & he ripped a pad off. Today, he got stung in the eye.
I love this dog!
