Thursday Chatter

    OK, good and bad.

My sugar is out of control, my vitamin D is a 13??? cholesterol is perfect, good could be a little higher.......

    bad news....

My report indicates a possible moderate blockage. My heart and test for everything else came out fine, good heart beat, not enlarged, and everything else is in the right realm for a 46 year old kind of out of shape woman. Just one part of my heart was showing less blood flow than the rest, thus the blockage indicator. I see a Cardiologist next Thursday. If I experience any extreme pain, chest or arm, or shortness of breath stuff, I am to go to the nearest ER. I am to take it easy and not do anything extreme for right now. No marathons for me!

I am actually relieved to know this. I know what I'm facing. It is so much better than wondering if my pain over the last month was imagine or stress related.

Since everything but my sugar and vitamin D are in range, the Dr. is associating this more with diet (yeah I'm bad) and genetics. There is a long hard history of heart problems from my fathers side, hence the test to begin with.

Now to get through the next 7 days calmly.

What kind of pain were you having that prompted all the testing? I know the news isn't the best but as you said, it's good that you know and the dr's can help treat it. I'll be thinking good thoughts for your appt with the cardiologist. In the meantime, no stressful activities :)

I completely understand.  I'm so glad you went in and had the tests done.  (((Hugs)))

The Vit D should be in the mid to high 20's.  I'm taking a supplement of 50,000 units once a week.  Yep, that's not a typo.  It helps your bones and is prescribed for women with ostopenia along with something like Boniva.  They say you get enough Vit D with 15 minutes of sun a day and I get way more than that most days. Don't understand it but I do know my Vit D levels have come up and my bone density has also improved.

Jackie - I think you're close to the same age as me but my dr. says they won't do a bone density until I'm 60. I even asked again recently because I'd read that surgical menopause can bring on early osteoporosis and he said insurance still wouldn't pay for it. Also, did you have to ask specifically for them to check Vit D levels?

It started a month ago, I was having nagging pain on my upper left chest, over the shoulder and down the arm, occasionally I would get a stitch in my left side. Most of the pain comes and goes, left arm does feel weaker than the right.

I have been under a huge amount of stress over the past 8 months and thought I was having panic attacks. Not so much I guess, though I am sure that did figure in.

Family history is bad for the heart, my fathers father died in 1973 at 56 from a massive heart attack. 4 of the seven children, my father included, have all had cardiac issues by the age of 54, not all smoke, not all drink (my father does neither) not all are out of shape, in fact my grandfather and 2 of my dads siblings were in other ways, in perfect weight and health. I had a cousin who had a heart attack at 39, she is 1 year older than I am, but she also has Lupus.

I still plan to work and garden, I informed 1 boss today, so that he was aware before they get back to work on Monday. The hubby will be going to the garden with me for the time being.

I am developing a huge I don't care or give a darn attitude to get me through. Also going to post a sign at work that my office is now a stress free environment.

I see lots of quilting and book reading in my future.

You really are soooo much better off with this information though and hopefully you won't need to make any huge changes to your lifestyle. I think more quilting and book reading sounds like a wonderful idea.

     brrr! very cold here today.

I got cable hooked back up today. It's nice to have TV again! The tech installer was good too. She arrived within her time window and wasn't rude. That's saying a lot for comcast tech people! She didn't appreciate Lily though. Lily had a bone in her mouth and she was wiggling at the lady making her typical grunting whooowhooo'ing. The lady thought Lily was growling at her. I tried to explain that is lily's attention seeking, excited behavior but I don't think she believed me. heh.

Did I read that someone is starting to like country music? blllleeehh!

    • Gold Top Dog

Yes Jewlieee, that would be me. Not all country, mostly older stuff. I completely blame my coworker lol. We rotate music in the office and it's part of the rotation and I find it's growing on me....I may need an intervention.

ROTF, key words here are "she" and "her" which adds up to "wasnt rude"

Julie, only in Michigan can it be 80 degrees one week and nearly snowing again the next.  April in this state is so unpredictable.

    Ginger - ROFL!  Good point!

It's absolutely gorgeous here today.  I finally got my plant pots in back planted.  I never did find the plants I was looking for (I think it's still too early, but I'm getting antsy) so I found some plants called *salvia* that have pretty red and pink blossoms.  The nursery dude said they love sun.  There were also some really pretty plants called *wallflowers* at Super Targed for only $4.49 a gallon. The tag said *can tolerate some shade* which to me says *put me in the sun and ignore me.*  My kind of plant. Also, for anyone who is interested, the new season of *Army Wives* starts up this coming Sunday ... at least that's what they said on TV.

Truley, I hope that you get healed up quickly! I'm sure this is pretty scary even though you are relieved. Keep us up to date!

Woo hoo, thank you for letting me know. I'd have been really sad if I'd missed the start. I'll check the DVR tonight to make sure it's still set. I love that show!!

    oops - double post

Joyce, Salvia are great plants and very tolerant of heat and drought.  The hummingbirds love them.  I have quite a few different types of salvia and bought a type I've never had this year.  It has deep purple flowers, almost black and it's very pretty.  I haven't planted all my pots yet because I'm waiting for the nursery to get in some of my favorties like firebush.

Dawn, I hear you on the family heart history and how that can worry you.  My dad died of a heart attack at age 59 and my maternal grandmother died at 62 of a heart attack.  Back then there was little early testing available and very few treatment options.  Stress is a factor in heart problems, from what I've read and you have had more than your share this past year.  We women really do tend to ignore our own health sometimes and we need to step back and realize that we can't take care of our families if we don't take care of ourselves.  Listen to me, I sound like an article in Family Circle. lol

Sharon, I love some of the country music out there.  In my younger days I hated all of it but I've come to enjoy a lot of the songs they play.  I like that group Lady Antebellum.  Her voice is just magical, to me.

A friend just called to tell me that they saw 5 maybe 6 puppies in the x ray done today on her very pregnant chocolate Lab, Remy.   She's due next week and I can't wait. :)  I get to smell puppy breath and play with them but I don't have to do any of the work. lol

We finally got the treadmill fixed today.  It's been broken for almost three months!  It's under warranty and I think we were getting a runaround because the authorized repair place didn't have much motivation to fix it since they couldn't make anything on the parts.  I understand all about making a profit and have no problem with that but if you are going to be a rep for a product you have to stand behind the agreement.
