Believe me Callie - I DO want to know. No, I was just freaked in general when she didn't really know what it was and terms like mast cell tumors and cancer were used in connection with my dog.
Was just trying to see where you were coming from question-wise.
There's no way to get around the initial panic over the "c-word". However -- keep in mind "mast cell" -- WE ALL HAVE THEM. Yes, we do. "mast cell" are simply histamine cells. They are in every 'body' (human and dog). But a mast cell 'tumor' is simply something that has grown beyond what it should. In fact, people freak hearing "Grade 2 Mast Cell" - and vets never seem to tell people "that's the LOWEST it can be -- because we all carry grade 1 mast cell in ALL our bodies"
Back when Muffin was diagnosed was probably the first time I completely lost it -- but from the time I took him to the vet with this thing that had doubled in size in a week, what I did from the MOMENT I noticed it was put him on a cancer diet.
No grains. The only carbs were veggie carbs. But every time I fed him until the results came back at least I felt like "no matter what I'm **DOING** something!!" I've done it ever since simply because I figure it's easier than worrying about it.
I will say, if it helps, that mast cell tumors do not usually get huge. Typically you will see several before you'll see a big one. Does that help?
