    Should we get another dog?

Our Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Kaylee, is 7 years old now. We are giving thought to adding another dog to our family. As much as we like Wheatens, we may decide to get a different breed - or, most likely, do a rescue. I think the tough part will be trying to keep Kaylee from eating a new dog's food.

Crates help, a lot, with that. Dogs don't have to be fed, together, and it's often easier to separate, especially at first. Check out Petfinder.com. There are 157 dogs listed, today, that are predominantly Wheaton. There's a REALLY cute boy named Mister, in Phoenix.

It sounds like you are free feeding right now.  It will be very easy to switch your current dog to a two meal per day schedule.  I did that with mine a few years back and I like it so much better, especially with multiples in the house.

If your dog is well socialized and likes other dogs, you should be able to add a dog.  But, I would avoid getting a female, especially another terrier female.  If you are in to totally going with another breed, this little guy could use a home and he likes bigger dogs:

Like Anne (SpiritDogs) said, go with a MALE - two females don't always work well together.

There's TONS of dogs on petfinder.com and petango.com looking for great homes!

Hi and welcome!  Like the others said.  I am all for adding a male from a shelter or rescue!  We will look forward to pictures.

I have no real advise other than the decision is yours.  Welcome to the forum.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Have you considered fostering anouther dog?  It's a great oppertunity to live with differnt breeds and also prepair them to find new forever homes.  My Gizmo was suppose to be a foster puppy but I ended up giving her a perminate home.  I fostered a little aussie/husky mix a few years back.  When she was in the shelter she just wanted to run away and hide but having anouther dog for her to play with was just what she needed to bring out her personality.  After a month she was so much more lively and it was eaiser to find her a new forever home then if she had stayed in the shelter.
