shammy- another note from Noah's teacher, what do you make of this?

"We have also noticed his skin tone has a yellow color to it.  It seemed to be more apparent after lunch.  Wonder if that might be from something he is eating.  It was interesting that the color of his hands especially was noticed after he ate lunch.  He is doing better this afternoon so eating may have helped."

Ok, now this is weirding me out!  What do you make of it?   Lunch is always GF Ude's bread with butter, cheese and 6 pepperoni's.  (will work on getting more meat and weed out the pepperoni's).  A cracker like gf smorables or animal crackers, or cashews or almonds, and then a yogurt or pudding or cheese stick, then the v-9 fusion drink.

Yellow skin- is that too much vitamin A?  Could it be from his supplements (he is on the attend and extress on vaxa.com).  Or is it scary like liver damage (jaundice?)?

I am taking him to a new complementary type doctor (traditional and leaning toward nutrition as being super important) this afternoon, so I will be sure to ask about that!

I am freaking out just a little bit!

It wouldn't need to be liver *damage* but it could be high liver values and that would be enough to make ME take him right to a clinic and get the blood checked.  It's nothing to mess with and should be covered under insurance.

Could be fluorescent bulbs at school -- could be a lot of things.  Some vitamins are more toxic than others if they aren't water soluable.  But again -- the blood work should tell the tale on that.  I'd probably take him the same time of day as she noticed having fed him the same things.

I'd agree with Callie that blood work would be wise (even as just a baseline "here is where we started" sort of thing). I'd also just mention, that tho I know you are working on various angles thru diet...do not forget that BALANCE is more important. Regardless of what disorder he has or doesn't...a balanced diet is not overly heavy on one thing over another, the trade off might not be all that great.

I'd start to push those fruits and veggies before any more meat...just me personally. You can find protein in veggies and they often are better for a person, they say.

Hopefully the doc can give you some more insight and hope that visit goes well.

Honestly, please, please, please, be careful with these types of doctors. I have seen all too many parents taken for a ride by these people who claim they will cure their children with vitamins and supplements. They just keep pouring money into this expensive gluten free food, and pricey supplements. Their is a pretty good likelihood of a vitamin deficiency given a gluten free diet, so you also need to investigate that as a possibility now, and while maintaining this diet.

I took him in to see a new doc- I had made an appointment this mornign anyway before I knew about the yellow skin issue. She took bloods and is running it up to the hospital herself and said she'd call with the results tonight. She was right on my same 'page' as far as nutrition and healthcare and liked to treat people holistically, not symptomatically! This is awesome but depressing, as we're moving in a month and will have to find the right fit for a doctor again. Got the validation I wanted/needed to keep going with this and she said if his new school needs any sort of note for the no wheat/red dyes, she said she'd be happy to write up that it's medically excluded from his diet. So that's awesome. The other clinic doctor was not willing to work on me with that. She believes that since his eyes are not yellow, that it probably is from to much caratine from the carrots in the v-fusion drink (plus cooked carrots are his favorite veggie and he ate a ton last night). She also complemented the heck outta me for taking the time to read and learn about food and its effects on the body. I said well, I got all my knowledge from taking care of my dogs, you all know how weird I am about their food! LOL so there's the update, I'll let you know when I hear anything on the liver values.

Hopefully, it's just too many carrots. That Fusion juice is SO good, LOL. It does have carrots and sweet potatoes, so lots of yellow.

Sorry it took so long for me to get the info out but his bloodwork is all normal, no problems there, just lay off the fusion! LOL.

Noah was a trooper for the blood draw too, he is really quite the boy <3

Ahem, my mom used to bribe me with a DQ Blizzard when I had to get blood drawn. Just saying :) WTG Noah!
