    Tax return help

ok so I did my taxes and they were received and accepted a while ago. The original date for refund quoted by the irs was 3/12. The day came and went and I rechecked the "where's my refund" online. That time it said to expect your refund on or around 3/16. So, that day came and went. Now it says they received my return and it is being processed. No date is given anymore!

wth is going on? Anyone have any ideas?

Are you having it direct deposited?  Usually it's pretty quick, but if you are getting a check, it's slower.

Also, did you hear anything about the state holding up the refund payments this year due to the budget?  I thought I heard a story about it on the radio, but it wasn't a definite thing as far as I know.

It could be that they've found a discrepancy in your return.  If I remember correctly, this happened to BF a couple years ago.  His refund was delayed, and when they finally posted the info, he ended up getting a little bit MORE in refund than the accountant had calculated.

Or, it could be the IRS is swamped and are running around like headless chickens. Stick out tongue

Whatever the issue is, I sure hope its resolved soon for you!!

Call your bank to see if it's being held for some reason. DH's bank held his for 4 days before letting it deposit into the account. When he asked for a reason why it happened, they couldn't give him one. Otherwise, call the IRS & have them track it for you.

I second calling the IRS.  It is most likely some sort of a discrepancy or they are just swamped, but either way, they can probably tell you what's going on.  Most likely, it is just still being processed and the date has moved back some.  This happened to my brother one year, and they kept changing the date on their website and then it did eventually show up!

I called and sat on hold forever. The guy said that it went to the errors department but that it is being processed again. There's no date for the refund. Gah. i checked with the turbo tax forums and apparently this is happening to a lot of turbo tax e-filers. They are getting bumped to errors for no reason other than the irs is swamped. I could really use that money!

Is this for MI or the Federal?  I had this problem with my MI return (Federal we owed and of course they had NO trouble taking their money the next day after I e-filed!!).  When I signed in to the MI treasury it said my return had been processed and deposited on Feb. 23.  OK so I waited at least three days and nothing was in my bank account.  Called the hotline, but when I entered the SSN of course the machine just said "your return has been processed and deposited" and hung up on me.  I called back and entered a fake SSN, but then it told me the phone queue was too busy and hung up on me (WTF?!  I would have waited!).  So I called back again and chose some totally random option in the phone tree, again entered a fake SSN, and finally got in the hold queue for 15 minutes.  A nice lady assured me that everything would be fine and even if there was a problem with the account number I filled in, the bank would reject the debit and they'd issue a check.  I checked the online system again the next day, and the deposit date had changed from Feb. 23 to something in the future.  Turns out I never received a deposit but a check came in the mail later that week.

*Sigh* Mine was mailed in a month ago, and doesn't show up under "Where's my refund" yet.  I wouldn't be concerned, since I was told it may take 5-7 weeks to get my refund, but a friend of mine mailed hers in later than me, and much more complicated and it shows in their system.  I'm just trying to be patient and not worry yet.  The IRS is probably overly swamped.

Good luck trying to get through to the IRS on the phone.  I had to call them and over the course of three days I probably spent a little over three hours on hold, listening to crappy music and a recorded voice telling me how important my call was to them. I finally just called the local H&R Block office and they got it straightened out in a couple of minutes.
