CBS) SANTA MONICA A professional dog trainer risked his life by climbing down a bluff over Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica Tuesday to save his dog Pepe, who had broken his collar and slid downhill.
Brandon McMillan was walking in the park above the highway when the dog's collar broke and he tumbled down the cliff.
Mcmillan immediately dove after him, but had to be rescued by Santa Monica firefighters.
Pepe, an 8-year-old Jack Russell terrier, was trained to sit by the side of the road and not dash into it.
A green sport utility vehicle came along, someone inside opened the door, and Pepe, without a collar and identification, disappeared toward Malibu.
"Without tags, he could be a stray from an alley somewhere," McMillan said.
Anyone with further information about the dog's whereabouts is asked to call CBS2 or the Santa Monica Police Department.
