Mindless Sunday

    Mindless Sunday

Since we lost an hour last night, I plan on napping today to make up for it.

DH made breakfast this morning, & WOW, he outdid himself.

My humans leave for Boston, if the weather cooporates, this afternoon.  The house is going to be very, very quiet without them. :(

We are flooded here in NJ.  My son rents and the complex floods they have garages so the water dosen't get to their homes but he had to prepare, put things high and move cars out.  He was wading thru water at 6am this morning moving his bike and spare car.   We have water in our basement, not to much yet but enough and the rain is going to keep up thru tomorrow.   There are roads closed and all kind of havoc going on here.

Don't worry Bev about your humans going away for a few days didn't the boys tell you Mom and Dad do a lot of "cooking"  shile their gone?Devil, or so they say, Hmm - maybe you will get a special meal.

Amanda how is Cher's wounds this morning?  Poor girl

Kids are asking for breakfast so it looks like I have to do some cooking too, but mine isn't fun.  Maybe I can cook at "nap" time for real. Embarrassed

*grumble* I HATE this time change -- I hate it every single solitary day until they give me back my hour in the fall.

I know - the outdoorsy types love the extra hour.  I just walk around tired for 8 months now.  But at least we weren't out late last night (which typically happens so at least I'm thankful for that).

I know -- I'm weird.  I hate shopping and I hate the time change ... I'm just ABnormal!! LOL (does anyone remember "Young Frankenstein"???)

Charles is home for the day and we just finished lunch.  I made a fritatta and it was very tastey.  He didn't sleep well last night and is tired today.  He took a nap when we got here and I was doing my best not to wake him up every five minutes. lol  The dogs were so excited and happy to see him.  Belle was very good and gentle.  Twister got in a few kisses and was happy.  Rex pressed his head against Charles and was making happy chortling noises. Very sweet. On the schedule is a shower and hair wash and trim.  His hair is bugging him because it's too long so wish me luck on that project.

I love the time change because I love the extra hour of daylight.  I could have used another hour of sleep this morning but other than that, I'm happy for DST.

Amanda, what happened to Cher????  I missed something (a lot of somethings, actually).  I know your house must seem so quiet with the boys gone.  I know that feeling lately.  It's funny how even with Charles quiet and making no noise, the house feels more alive and less lonely with him here.

The missing hour will probably catch up with me tomorrow... so not looking forward to being out the door at 5:45 AM.

I have several hours of work on some data to do. I will be glad once I'm done with it, since I will have nicer looking data for my efforts, but the hours of effort that are involved in getting there, that doesn't excite me.

Oh wow, that is awesome -- and ps -- Amanda had Cher and Bevo at Petsmart yesterday and a little snotty chi tore into Cher and punctured her back -- then even when that was over, Cher THEN took time to sit and cuddle on a boy in a wheelchair.  I love it when the dog have their own agendas.  Billy was tell Rex "WAY TO GO BUDDY!!!" -- it's those head presses that heal -- Billy is firmly convinced of that!!

I'm kinda with you on this one, Callie.  The days are starting to get longer anyway, so what would be so terrible if it was dark enough for fireworks on the 4th. of July at 8:30 p.m. instead of having to wait until 9:30? We'd still be getting a lot of extra daylight even without a time change. I forgot to set the clocks ahead last night (after reminding everyone else Smile) so I just did it this morning. It's really pretty out today ... but cold. OK, go ahead and laugh ... but I think 55 is cold, especially if the wind is blowing, which it is.

Jackie, I'm so happy that Charles is home!  I have no doubt that you are so happy to have him home, even if he is tired, & does nothing but naps all day.

Jackie, Cher was attacked by an Angel sized, yappy dog yesterday in Petsmart.  She's doing fine today.  Her bite wounds are kinda oozy today, but she doesn't act like they are hurting.  This morning, I had two friends, & their dogs meet us at Petsmart, so that I knew that Cher would have a positive experience.  Everything went very well, & she had no issues with my friends dogs or with any other dog there.

Add me to the "Love DST" folks.  That extra hour is sooo nice.  I can take the dogs out for a run, hike, or swim in the evenings when I get home from work.  It's nice to be able to tire them out & then have a nice, quiet, calm evening.

Swissy, I heard that Jersey was getting blasted by this storm.  I really hope that your damage is minimal.

Speaking of the nor'easter & it wake.....Who boy, that was a good'un.  Sump pump worked (good).  Soaked ground + wind = pine tree blown over.  Good news is that it looks like nothing was damaged.  We've wanted to cut this tree down anyway.  This way we don't have to worry about where it will fall when we cut it & we'll have no stump to deal with.  I'll post picts in NDR.

I really must check in on more during the weekend.  I miss so much.  *running to see what happend to Cher*

Jackie!  I'm soooooo glad that Charles got a small reprieve & came home.  I can just imagine how right it felt to have him home. Soon, sweetie & he'll be home for good.  I'm just giddy for you.

*giggle*  Callie's Abbynormal. ~LOL~  Young Frankinstein is one of my ALL time favorite movies.

Otis has a bit of kennel cough.  Fortunately we have a retired vet who works with our shelter and she called to allow them to dispense some meds for him today.

I looked high and low at every store locally, dept. as well as pet supplies, to find a little sweater for Otis because he's always shivering.  Do you think I could find one in his size?  Nope.  But when I went to the shelter to get the meds, I mentioned my dilemma and lo & behold, they had some fleece dog shirts donated, one of which fits Otis perfectly.  So between that, the meds, and vaporizer I have running, he seems to being perking up a bit.

Good news - a lady is coming up Wednesday from about 2 1/2 hours away to meet Otis - she really wants to adopt a Dachshund - lost hers a couple years ago and said she's ready.  I talked with her at length, sounds like it will be a good placement.  She's already arranged to have someone checking on him while she's at work for the first week or so if he goes home with her.  She wasn't worried about the bite incident - so I'm hoping this works for him.

I've been cooking/grinding/mixing/ freezing food all afternoon for the critters, and I am beat.

Got my son's taxes done yesterday, on to mine in a minute.  Joy.

Oh, good job Cher & Bevo  for not commiting stufficide on the live terror at PetSmart.  Stupid owner - how could she not notice the damn dog attacking Cher?

Jackie, yay for having Charles home!

Sending healing vibes to Otis & Cher.  Get better soon, puppahs!

Jackie, that is sooo awesome that Charles was able to come home for a bit today!  And to hear he might be able to come home full time soon....wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!

I like DST.  Yes, I miss that hour in the mornings (I fought off taking a nap this afternoon so I can get to bed early tonight because of it, lol), but that extra hour in the evening is a godsend for getting the dogs some extra exercise.  Plus it means spring is on the way!!  I know we're all ready for that after this awful winter.

Friday night our company (that BF & I own) hosted a skybox at an Atlanta Thrashers game for some kids from a local charity.  The charity is a live-in facility for some extreme disadvantaged kids (basically, kids who have such severe problems that its their last shot before being institutionalized for their entire lives, and they have an 85% success rate which is phenominal IMO).  15 kids from the facility, who had earned this trip as a reward for good behavior, came to the game, as well as some adults from the charity, and BF and our friend/coworker (both of whom play hockey) taught the kids all about hockey.  I didn't go, but BF said that the kids had an absolute blast.  The adults from the charity said that the evening was probably the highlight of their entire year.  I told him we should try and do this at least once, if not twice a year for them, and next time I definitely want to attend as well (I was too wiped out to go to this one).  It was great listening to BF tell me all about it.  I could tell he had a great time with the kids. Yes

Amanda, you know I have to say this on behalf of some toy dogs.  Not all of them are furry monsters.  I'm really sorry & hope that Cher won't hold anything against other small dogs that she may meet in her lifetime.  Mostly, I hope she heals fast & well.  Give her some rubbies from me.

      I heart this!

Warm healing vibes for Cher & Otis.  So glad you feel less lonely having Charles home- hope the haircut went well.

Yesterday it was bright and sunny - people at the parade were wearing t-shirts and even a few bikini tops.  Today, it snowed.  I feel like I'm back in New England.

I have to go pick my sister up from the airport.  The freedom ends.  Boo.

    seconded!

DH is mixing me a might fine mojito right now aaaaaaahhh.  If you've not tried adding a bit of cilantro - do it!

Annie as you are aware there are many, many tall pines around here and every storm some come down. So glad that no one and not too much seems harmed.

Dawn I know NJ & LI got hammered from this storm. Still waiting for the update from my sister.

We had a great, wonderful, super walk with Bugsy today - some of you know he has been lacking in confidence and at times been reactive on leash due to being so anxious etc.  Well today we met 6 dogs on leash and all we had was happiness and tail wagging.  In fact we met 5 all at once, all of which were big dogs and it was just fun.

Did lots of cleaning and little projects in the house this weekend.  Also finished seeding the lawn.

Found out some friends of mine that I haven't seen in years will come and stay with us next Friday night.  SUPER happy although they are elderly and I do worry about the canine bowling ball with the most painful tail known to mankind.  Working on that plan already

filet mignon, broccoli rabe + linguini, + iceberg wedge with blue cheese dressing for dinner

    yum yum

More errands today, including walking Shadow and taking him along. Anyway, here in a short bit, I will cooking chicken breastuses on the grill. I've got this smoking wood cut from the staves of old wine casks and I think I'm going to try that for smoke on the fire.
