Dental frustration.

    Dental frustration.

When I was in third grade I fell through some monkey bars and knocked the bottom half of both of my front teeth out.  When I had them repaired the dentist only added a bonding to the bottom halves because my face was still growing and he didn't want to pull them out and replace them.  Well I have just left the bonding there since I haven't had any dental insurance and that would surely be an expensive process.  I did have the bonding replaced once because I knocked them out at one point and they just repaired them.

Now to my frustration.  Last night as I was playing with Finn, I got hit in the mouth with a bone and it cut my upper lip and knocked out one of my bonded pieces, so that leaves me looking like a hockey player that was punched in the face.  I was supposed to go and tutor this morning which I obviously couldn't do.  I look ridiculous and no sixth grade child would take me seiously, plus I am now talking with a lisp.  So I have been trying to find a dentist that is open on Saturdays and I have found a couple, but they are all booked up and since I am in no pain, it isn't technically an emergency.  Grrrrrr.  I can not go out looking like this.  I know I sound ridiculous, but it's just how I feel.  My lip hurts like h&ll and it keeps scraping on my broken tooth.  I just want to cry.  I have to go to work tomorrow, because they just don't have any other coverage at the boarding kennel, but then I'll need to take off again on Monday for my appointment.  I just don't get why these places don't work on weekends when a lot of people are off and take random weekdays to close.  I would think that would mean more business for them.

Who knows.  I just needed to vent.  I'm off to put some ice on my lip and maybe eat something if I can.

Georgie - I'm sorry that you're having to deal with this on a weekend and as much as I'd love to tell you not to worry about how it looks, I know I'd feel the same way as you do. It's too bad that you couldn't find a dentist that can fit you in today. I know when I was a dental assistant, we were open 2 Saturdays a month and those days were jam-packed with scheduled patients. As you can imagine, many people need to schedule when they're not working or the kids aren't in school. I know this isn't going to be the best weekend for you but it'll hopefully go by fast and on Monday you'll have your beautiful smile back. :)

It's no surprise these things happen on a weekend!!!  LOL  That's just the way the luck goes everytime eh!  Sorry you have to deal with this....sounds really sucky.  I'm with you on the weekend hours bit.  You'd think they'd make more business then when everyone's home from work.

Ditto, hope you still have somewhat of a good weekend.  Movie and a tub of icecream??????

    Good luck.

What a pain!!! For the scratchy tooth-on-lip issue, do you have any orthodontist's office nearby? If so, call them up, and give them a sob story about how you really need dental wax (like for braces), and ask if you can buy some. (You could say you're visiting from out of town and getting a rub from your braces, or just explain your situation.) Chances are they'll be happy to just give you a package for free - they hand them out like candy to kids with braces - and then you can take a small piece and mold it over the rough edges of your tooth to give your lips a little relief until you can get fixed up for good.

If that doesn't work, you can also try cigarette rolling papers to wad up and make a little tooth-cover for the roughness.

The dental wax is great because it's soft, moldable, and non-toxic so it's okay if you swallow it by mistake. But you could probably use some other sort of wax if you get really desperate.

Could you call the ER, I'm sure they have some sort of non-emergency number, and see if they can refer you to an emergency dentist? Maybe with a 'referral' someplace could get you in. That sucks, for sure :(

Sounds like pain to me so I would push it as an emergency need to be seen today sort of thing.

Thanks everyone.  I probably could have pushed the issue, but I don't want to go in to see an angry dentist.  I'm not crazy about dental stuff in the first place and then to have to go in and see someone on their day off or something, I dont know.  My lip is feeling a little better and I am eating soft things that aren't too hot or too cold.  My mom keeps pushing me to go to the ER but without insurance, that will cost more than a dentist, I suspect.  So, now I guess I just wait it out til Monday.  I am just going to talk with my hand in front of my face tomorrow at work.  At least it's only a five hour shift.

OMG! That would be my worst nightmare. I occassionally dream that my teeth fall out and I can actually feel it. Horrible!

Oh no!  What about the Pitt dental school?  I'm surprised they wouldn't have had something, although not the absolute best choice at least they are probably cheap?

Hoep you can get it fixed easily enough!
