    rw-Lily's new snake (pics included)

I don't recall if I posted here but quite a while back Zig, Lily's pretty orangey red pink Corn Snake escaped and was lost. Lily was VERY distraught and upset and did not even want to talk to me about another snake, but recently she has decided she wants to try again and we got her another. This is a Lavender phase boy, he arrived today and here are some pics! He is a juvenile right now and will change with every shed to eventually be a very pale lavender/silver cast color, the colors of Lily's room Wink. Bet you can guess how she picked the color LOL.

and be advised, there are SNAKE PICTURES...PICTURES...in this post.  Just wanted to put another disclaimer, lol.

Hope you guys enjoyed the pics! He is beautiful and very curious and active right out of the box. We'll let him settle a day or two then attempt to handle and feed him. His name is SilverShadow...but she will be calling him Shadow as a call name. Lily picked the name lol.

First, Gina, thank you so much for the warning.  I have actually reached the point where I can look, if I know whats coming, without letting out a little gasp and lifting my feet!

Agreed, that is a very pretty snake.  IN a picture, wayyyyyy far away from me.

Keep the pics....and the warnings....coming and maybe one day I'll be a tiny bit less phobic!

    • Gold Top Dog

I will always put the warning up...no worries! I know how phobias are. I have one for sharks!

I am just so pleased Lily got another because she was just so sad when Zig escaped. We are going to be super cautious with this guy...Corns are just notorious escapee's. But I am sure she will enjoy her new friend and was just about coming out of her skin this morning since she knew it was "delivery day" LOL!

Gina -- stupid question -- but how the heck did he breathe in the box in a plastic container??  Huh??? How do they DO that?

    • Gold Top Dog

Awww, I'm sorry about Zig the snake! Poor Lily. The new snake is very pretty!

Well even taped up a box is not airtight. Snakes breath slower than us...esp when colder than they want to be. They ship them with either dry ice or heat packs depending on what the weather forecast is where they travel thru. The deli cup he was in has holes and the air circulating inside the box was enough, I guess! They ONLY ship their reptiles Overnight so they have to deal with the air situation only a short time in transit. It's impressive tho. They have a Live Arrival guarantee so they are pretty confident LOL!

They can ship chicks too but I think they ship them in boxes with holes in them.

Cute snake - I like his color right now, even.  I am sad to hear about Zig, though.  A very good looking snake he/she was.

He is very cute! I'm sorry to hear about Zig though.

I love snakes, they are such neat critters.

Gina, you are one cool Mom! I asked my Momma for a hampster...lets just take a wild guess at her answer....hmmm, Nope! I know better then to ask for a snake, but have done so before. The way I figure it, I'll start with what I know will be a deffinate no, and make my way down the list to acceptable pets, and can get a "maybe" for one of those then LOL.

Really cute little snake! Congrat's to Lily about her new buddy.

Will it bite?  I'd be feeling things crawling all over me at night just thinking of it escaping!

    Will it bite?

    Will a dog bite? LOL.

The answer to that is "yes given the right circumstance"...almost any snake or dog COULD bite. You minimize your risk by keeping them calm and making sure they feel secure and properly socializing them so they accept handling from many different kinds of people...in different kinds of situations. To be honest? I would rather be bitten by a full grown corn snake than even a Chihuahua...do a lot less damage and be a lot less bloody LOL!

He's soooo beautiful! Can't wait to see "growing up" pics.

Lily is in love. She is sitting at her desk doing her homework and looking periodically at the teenty tiny nose and flicking tongue, sticking out from under the bedding material in the enclosure LOL!!

    • Gold Top Dog

Is he another corn snake?  He is so pretty....  Main downside of corns is their Houdini abilities.  I nearly had one once. but I was terrified that it would get out and my step mum would find it and kill it Sad

    • Gold Top Dog

yes he's a Corn. Smile We are battening down the hatches this time to avoid losing him. NO CATS in the bedroom lol. They were the culprits last time...poked tiny holes in the screen top and out she went!
