    rw-*crawling into the room...gasping*

    *coughing*,*spitting*...*sneezing*, *wheezing*

    please....please someone help me....it's begun...it's here...too soon...not. Prepared.

The Spring 2010 Leonberger Coat Blow...

I have only 2 rakes and my addled wits to help me survive it...I am already covered in hair, and it's trying to infiltrate my mouth and eyes and nose and cut off my air. I just cut thru it's ranks with my long toothed rake and it ran off...but it's regrouping. I know it...the biggest battle is still to come. It's out there...I can sense it deploying the foot soldiers (dust bunnies)...

How can I do this alone. *eyes clippers*, no, no that is COWARDLY.

    Wish me luck everyone...

ROTFLMAO!!!  That's too funny!!  I have been watching Hot like a Hawk too!  Just did a deep clean on the wood floors yesterday!  That way I will be able to see the big blow when it hits!! LOL!

    NO...No...NO...NO Not the clippers!!!!!

    So tempting...

*peeks out from behind sofa clutching a grooming rake in each hand*

Maybe I could put a small length of chain between these two rakes and make some rake-chuks??

Or ... well, just sew a huge "bag" out of nylon net and inset a pair of vet's cow gloves in -- put her IN it.  Then you can "operate" with the gloves like the fellows at NASA do in their "clean rooms"

Then when she walks she'll just look like Pig Pen (from Charlie Brown/Peanuts??) except her little "trail" will be contained.

Or you could just get her an ENORMOUS hamster ball (like the little guy had in Bolt).  No .. probably would be expensive.

    LOL.

When I groomed full time, I would get a samoyed or some such similar double coated breed blowing coat.  Give 'em a bath and then start with the forced air dryer. holy cow.  Hair everywhere!! We wore those googles to keep the fur out of our eyes, but it was everywhere!

    I feel you pain.

I may rethink getting a big n hairy and stick with a nonshedding big n hairy :)

YOU--OUTSIDE, NOW! Grab the blow dryer, a looong extension cord and blow the coat (literally) all over the yard.  The birds will LOVE you for it!

Good luck surviving the "Great Blow"!

I swear that I battle hair more now with 2 labs than I ever did with my samoyed. I mean there were times of the year when my samoyed would go thru weeks of shedding and I had to brush her daily, but it still didn't seem as bad as the constant hair I have now. We're actually in a bit of a lull right now but I know it won't be much longer till the big blow rolls in. Ugh Gina, it's a good thing Cleo is so beautiful and sweet.

Same thought went through my mind.  A shop vac with the hose set to the exhaust works even better.  It'll send those tumble weeds down the driveway and up the street.

Gina, you know we must have pictures, don't ya?  Wink

lol i had my grandmothers little carolina coyote dog that was.. well a small enough dog. she looked innocent enough but God all mighty did she put new meaning to blowing the coat..... after a bath i was as hairy as she was!!! i had a GSD pure, GSD mix, Rottie mix and Collie/sheltie mix.... aaaaaand none of them combined could throw off fur like Lady could!

i agree, what ever you do, the birds will love all that hair!!  better outside than in the bath drains lol

i wonder though.... what about a shop vac? would that help pull off the dead hair or is it about the same effect plus noise? i dont know how she is the noise.. our shop vac is a monster and i cant even stand the racket it puts out.....the dogs all run and hide when it has to be used lol

i know exactly how you feel! Probably to a lesser extent though since she's so big. I'll pet him and literally patches will fall out

teeheeeheee. I've never personally owed a dog that blew coat but man I remember these times of the year when I groomed. Poor, distraught owners would come into the shop, begging for a miracle. One of the groomer's mothers actually used spin dog hair. We'd take her cleaned dog hair (bags and bags of it) from the shop so she could spin it. No matter the filtration system we had in the shop, this time of the year, the hair was everywhere. On us, on them, the floors, the vents, in the corners, in bags, everywhere. I LOOOVED taking the force dryer and watching the hair fly.

I don't know how some of you survive the hair attack.  I keep Pipers down in a long hunters cut in winter, and I see I am sitting in a cloud of short hairs every time I touch her.  I saw one of the white Nordic dogs in a backyard one spring.  The trees, including in the neighbors yard, looked like they had been gaily festooned with long strands  of heavy white hair.

    Do you have backup coming?

Yes it is LETHAL to A/C units. We have a special catch filter on our new unit to prolong it's life. It is full every weekend. It's a metal thing that fits over top of the main filter compartment. A first line of defense kind of...we take it outside and blow it off and hose it down every weekend and it's saving our A/C big time. I recommend one to everyone with a dog that blows coat. We have cats too and they also can kill a/c units before their time.
