Internet anonymity

Joyce that gave me a chuckle

I used to be very worried about the internet but then I started a business that needs my info on the net, real name included, so no anonymity for me.  The bigger concern is how things link together.  For ages I kept trying to keep facebook very small but I have caved and now just remove people from my page or whatever it is if the language is inappropriate.  I can't risk that association.

I used to have a VERY unique surname but marriage made me one in 3 million LOL

Well that's it.  My name is no longer Candace.  I'm gonna be...Jezabel, and my dogs are gonna be Fifi and Buttercup.  You decide which one is which.  Stick out tongue

You are sooooo a "Jezabel" Candace!! Wink

I want a new name too!!!

OP, I have actually met someone who lurked on this site in a pet supply store.  She came up to me & introduced herself because she recognized Bevo.  She came up & asked me if I was Amanda, & then explained that she "knew" me because of Bev.  It was a little weird at first, but I'm actually friends with this person now.

I am a very private person, and part of me really wants to keep anonymity in this forum.  I do not even say my cairn's name, nor post his picture, even though I want to at times.  Just letting you all know.

    *Waves!*

I can see your house from here!

    Just kidding.

By the way, that dinner looks delicious Stick out tongue

    Sorry.  Sorry.  Sorry.

I do wish we could see a photo of the little guy, thoughBig Smile Nobody is going to find you based on your dog's call name.

It freaked me out, the first time I got a catalogue, to see ALL of my information printed there, for everybody to read. Since, it's become not a big deal. If somebody *really* wants to find me, they're going to, regardless.

My (married) last name is spelled a bit differently than the norm (Sch instead of the more common Sh), and there is actually a reasonably "famous" author/keynote speaker with my exact name, so if you  just google my name the first 10 pages or so are for her... if you google my name and my alma mater or something specific about me, then some of the hits are actually for me.

I'm not super paranoid, and someone would have to be a long-time member of this forum with a super memory (or great skill at the search function, since I still can't get it to work 100%) to get enough information about me to do anything.  Or, know me on FB, which a decent number of members do. Except Karen, she must be super paranoid I'll come steal the handsome Bugsy. Either that, or she has no idea who I am since I don't usually send messages along with friend requests  Stick out tongue

I don't like posting pictures of my family, although I have from time to time.  My bigget worry is not only that someone could track you down if they wanted to but someone coping my childs picture and exploting them.

Amanda that story is to funny, who was it??????  Zip it!

Her name is Kendall.  As far as I know, she never joined.  She was just a lurker.

I think that I've posted the boys pics once, & I'm pretty sure that I broke the link a week or so later.  I'm just not comfortable putting their pics up.  After dealing with a stalker of my own, there's no way that I'd take the chance of putting my kids in that type of situation.

    • Gold Top Dog

Yeah, I agree.  I've put pictures of myself, DH and Willow.  But, I don't post pictures of any other family members on the forum.

Nah Nicole, she just wouldn't be able to talk about you as much...Stick out tongue

FTR, I typically look at the mutual friends before i accept people on facebook.  If there's several iDoggers, I'm pretty comfy hitting accept.
