Mindless Christmas Eve

    • Gold Top Dog

I went in and did payroll, went by the bank and picked up breakfast tacos to take home for DH and the dogs. lol  I'm making what we call Big Noodle sauce (family tradition) for dinner tonight.   My brother stopped by for a visit.  He's heading to Houston to see one of his daughters and her kids.  He's very depressed because his friend since childhood is dying of cancer. This will probably be his friends last Christmas.  My brother is a hard nosed kind of guy and it's painful to see him so down. I'm used to him telling me not to be so emotional. Those two have been in and out of trouble and fished and hunted together for over forty years.  I know my brother will have a hard time losing his best friend.

It's cold and windy here but we aren't having the bad weather that is hitting some areas.  Stay safe vibes for those driving.  Merry Christmas Eve to all.

I just got in from running a quick trip to the fabric store. I made my pickle, cream cheese and ham roll ups and got all my gifts from patients out of the car, my gift wrap and my gifts to give.

Now here is where the fun starts, I told the husband I was hearing a rattling sound in the rear of the car so he went to look. Some squirrel hid 2 walnuts in casings in my spare tire well..........

I grabbed a piece of ham to spread cheese on, stepped on a well placed dog toy, over balanced and the ham flew out of my hands and straight into Kords mouth......I smell a conspiracy here..........

I then placed my gifts from the patients in their bags on my bedroom floor to put away, went into the kitchen and set up the table to wrap. Walked back into the living room to put my new cloth away and Kord comes out of the kitchen with my gift wrap in his mouth.......I tell him to drop it and he does, no damage, will use that to wrap the kids stuff. So I put it back in the kitchen with a leave it and head to the living room, only to find a new hand soap I was given laying on the floor...........hmmmmm

So then I sit down to chat with the DH before I start and the next thing we hear is "clunk, rattle and thud"...the boy then came in all happy and dancing....with a new stuffed Santa picture frame I was given in his mouth...I could hear his thought...."yay, stuffie, toy, play"...

It broke his heart to give it up, and my DH and I are fighting like heck to keep from laughing at him.

Sigh, I broke down and promised him the wrapper rolls when I'm done.

I took a few short videos and some pictures of Bugsy on our walk but for the life of me I cannot upload the videos.  I don't understand what the problem is!!  And photobucket has been crashing on me regularly - is it me???

I'll post a link to the photos in the photo area, best I can do at this point.  As for the videos argh!

The sun is still shining Big Smile

We will go to a 5 o'clock church service then out for something to eat and home for a nightcap in front of the fire

Working ALL DAY even though no one is even here...go figure.

I'm in a sour mood.  Last week I called my PCP to schedule an annual physical.  They always make me schedule it after the date of the one the previous year, and then of course the "doctor is on vacation" so it ends up being another 2-3 weeks, which doesn't really matter except that for birth control they won't give you more than a year's worth of refills.  So I'm running out of pills in about two weeks and my appointment is not until the end of January, not cool.  I talked to a nurse and explained, asked her to call in one more refill.  Last night DH went to the pharmacy and picked up our scripts.  He doesn't know what I take so he didn't even look in the bag.  He hands it to me and the pills look different, have a different name, a different dosage, and are not counted the same.  Currently I get three months at a time with just ONE week of sugar pill (so two packets have 4 rows of BC pills and the third packet has 4 rows of BC pills and then a fifth row of the sugar pill).  These pills were a lower dosage, different brand/supplier (which doesn't really matter to me, but still...), and had a sugar pill week on each of the three packets (so each packet only has three rows of BC pills and a fourth row of sugar pill).  I know I will spot on this dosage, plus I'm not getting my money's worth if I have to skip 2-3 weeks worth of sugar pill and move on to the next packet.  DH went back to the pharmacy for me today (bless him, lol!) and they said they gave him exactly what was called in.  OK fair enough.  I called my doctor's office trying to get to the nurse line and figure out how the heck I ended up with pills I've never seen before in my life, and of course they are closed for the holiday. Gah!!

I'm getting a cold. :( I'm at the annoying sore throat, scratchy voice stage.

Sorry, you probably got it from me. Whatever I have is so darn contagious that it probably traveled right through internetworld, down the cable and right onto your keyboard and mouse.

I made a batch of peanut butter cups, started last night and finished up this morning. I forgot how labor-intensive those stupid things are! Usually I make them with my mom and it goes a lot faster. This morning I made Marty's mom's cheese bread. The loaves are rising right now. I have no idea how long it should take. It's been two hours. I hope they turn out. I am planning on bringing one over to MIL's house tonight for dinner. DH's work bonus/gift was - yes - a turkey. LOL. So he brought it over to her house to make tonight. We'll be over at my side of the fam's tomorrow for dinner.

Willa is actually taking her nap today! Yay! Poor girl is sick too. It's so hard to get a toddler to blow her nose. She knows how, but her nose is sore from being stuffy and wiped so much.

I woke up at- 8 AM and got ready to go to Walmart to finish my X-mas shopping. Got my moms and Zekes present. Other than that just been hanging out with the family and preparing the X-mas gifts. :) I am pretty anxious for the morning to come! I love to watch everybody open their presents. Plus Zeke can smell his new Ham Bone, and I had to put it in the back of the tree so it wouldn't tempt him, LOL!

I'm making what we call Big Noodle sauce (family tradition) for dinner tonight.

What is Big Noodle sauce? I'm starving and everything sounds good right now. A friend dropped by a huge platter of gorgeous and delicious cookies yesterday and I'm nibbling my way thru each kind that's on there.

Jackie - I'm very sorry abuot your brother's friend. 40+ years is a longtime to maintain a friendship and I'm sure your brother is very sad at the thought of losing this friend. I've known my BFF for 37 years and I can't even imagine what would happen if I were to lose her. I hope your brother's friend is able to enjoy the holidays and they're able to spend some time together.

My neck has been killing me lately so I went to Walgreens and bought a pkg of ThermaCare for the neck and man, I am in love. It felt better within a few min's of putting it on and it's a nice, toasty feeling now. Definitely worth the money. I am sleepy though, so maybe a nice nap is in order now.

I am hungry and waiting to go out for an early dinner tonight.  We are going out for Chinese.  It's the only time of year we eat it (well, the crummy buffet style Chinese food - I LOVE dim dum and those delicious buns with the stuff in them, but I can't get those where I live), ever since I met FH, every Christmas Eve, we either go out for Chinese or someone picks up takeout and brings it to wherever we are Big Smile

Tomorrow, we are travelling to my parents place for Christmas, then Boxing Day we are going to FH's parents place.  I'm incredibly frustrated/annoyed with his brother right now, but it's Christmas, so I am going to try to let that go.  He won't change anyway, so what's the point.  It's easier to just get along.

I might have gone crazy with the dog presents this year, usually we just get them one little gift and that's it....this year they have a whole stocking full each.  heheheh.  oh well.  It will be cute to see them.

I went overboard too Stacey.  And I've given them most of the stuff I've bought already.  They had some rawhides, but I gave those to them the other night when I had the girls over for drinks.  It kept them busy.  And they got all their SS stuff the day it came in.  Plus the Busy Buddy things were handed out when I got home, so we could Test them. They've been eating out of them every day since.  Still, they have 3 gifts each to open tomorrow morning.  A big knuckle bone, a stuff and a box of treats...I might not have them open the treat boxes though...

I'm waiting to hear about the Big Noodle sauce too...in all my baking and stuff today, I forgot all about making supper tonight...Stick out tongue

The thread title is too funny. Maybe appropos. Anyway, we got out and did our errands before the snow started sticking. We were supposed to go down to Dallas and visit our friends and goddaughter but the weather is deteriorating and will freeze hard this evening. So, we've been baking orange gum slice squares (light brownies with candied orange gum slices in them) and I'm going to make some chili tonight. Tomorrow, DW works but only until 4 pm and then we will go to Blue Ridge for a Christmas dinner of steaks. One friend is bringing ribeyes and we're bringing t-bones. And brie cheese and crackers.

I got a Christmas present today which was a monster book on grilling, as if I needed another excuse. I am a grill meister.

Phew.  The house is spotless (for a few hours anyway) and I have finished everything on the list today.  Considering how late I ran, we opted for a 10PM "midnite" mass.  The only thing I have left to do is to stuff the stockings and will do that in a few minutes.

The potato soup is just about ready to eat...that's been our Christmas Eve meal for more years than I can remember!  Tradition and all.......

Wonder if it would be kosher to go to church with a glass of wine in my system???

Wonder if it would be kosher to go to church with a glass of wine in my system???

As long as it's just a glass, I think it'd be just fine. I come from an Italian/Catholic family and I'm pretty sure that some of my aunts and uncles went to midnight mass with more than a glass in their system. :)

Thanks to Ron, I now have a huge craving for chili and/or steak. I have yet to make chili this winter and it's one of my favorite foods.

    What is Big Noodle sauce?

It's an Italian sauce we serve in those giant shells.  My Dad "invented" the sauce or so we all thought for many years.  That is until I saw the exact recipe on the box of pasta shells. lol  One pound of hamburger meat, one pound of ground sausage, mixed together.  One large onion chopped.  Saute 3 slices of chopped bacon in olive oil, then add onions and saute.  Add meat and brown.  Add two 28 oz cans of good canned tomatoes and two bay leaves. Add one teaspoon basil. Salt and pepper to taste.  Simmer one hour.  Add two cans tomato paste and two tablespoons of sherry.  Simmer fifteen more minutes.  Stuff cooked shells and sprinkle with a good parmesan cheese.  This makes a big batch but like most sauces it's better the next day. :)  I know you didn't ask for the recipe but I don't worry about little details like that. lol

I love those ThermaCare wraps. I often have a neck ache and they really do help relax your muscles.

Sigh...I still have to make a pumpkin cheesecake...

I feel like a little kid. The weatherman here said that "the first time in 80 years, Dallas/Fort worth will have a white christmas." How cool is that?? I hope we will get Cleo/beagle snow pics! I have to upload Lucky's to the computer! He's the first Tzu I've had who LOVES the snow. He only wanted to go inside when those little snowballs stuck to his feet.
