A little nervous (girly stuff)

Glad it went pretty well. Bummer about the pain though :( Hope you're feeling all better by tomorrow!

     How are you feeling today?

    • Gold Top Dog

Much better, thanks!  As long as I take the Aleve I'm doing well, without it's still a bit uncomfortable, but nothing as ouchy as the cramps from yesterday evening. :)  I'm at the point that it's already worth the pain - I can totally handle the couple of days of gradually decreasing cramping and a day or so of mild bleeding in exchange for all the benefits over the next 5 years. :)

    • Gold Top Dog

Hunh... I only remember the pain during the procedure and no real cramping after the fact....  But I'm glad it's over with for you!  lol..

    • Gold Top Dog

I never had any pain during the procedure or for the rest of the day due to the local, but the next day I had some cramping too.

Are locals for IUDs common in Canada?  My dr. said it's not popular here because you still have to get deep access to administer it, so it's often only used if they're having a really difficult time.  I've never heard it used here.

I'm not really sure if its common per se.  My obgyn is also an anesthesiologist so that is probably why he's quick to use it.  I was probably just lucky.  He is quitting his family practice at the end of this year though and devoting all of his time to the surgery department.  I want to cry...Crying

He did say however, that the reason he uses freezing is because there's less chance of the device dislodging itself initially since there is actually less cramping.   Oh, and that needle was LONG!

I had one, until we started trying again.  I loved it!  I liked not having to remember to take pills and there were no noticeable side effects for me. Once it was out though, DH asked me to never have one again.  He admitted he could, er.... "feel it" when it was in, and - how shall I say it - everything was so much nicer now??  Amazing what screwing with the hormones does to your libido as well....  I'm going to have to have a serious think about birth control over the next 6 months.  I did really like it, but DH has persuaded me to think of other options, even if it means pills again.  ACK!

From what I've heard, guys can't feel the actual IUD, it's the string they can feel at times and that can be shortened if necessary... We'll see - DH is erm a bit above average so prob at higher risk.

I'm still having cramping requiring Aleve at least every 12 hours, so I'm going to call the dr's office tomorrow to see if that's ok.  Of course I've been running in an agility trial all weekend and they get worse at the end of the day, so perhaps that's contributing.  I finish up the antibiotics tomorrow (yay!).

    • Gold Top Dog

Wow.  I'm too old for that stuff now, but I can remember having an IUD and I never had cramps or took any antibiotics. ( I guess what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.)

Chuffy, the thing about the string is true - it can be shortened.  Mike was "at risk" too:-))  So, I had my gynecologist do that because Mike said he'd rather me not take pills.  Earlier in my life, I had done that and they made me sick - very sick.  So, he didn't want me to revisit that issue.

He claims he could actually feel it - not just the string.  I mean, feel it to the point where it was a little uncomfortable in certain positions. That might be to do with the actual placement of it, and/or the fact he is above avg as well.  I'm skating near the knuckle now, so I shall say no more on this particular subject!

I didn't have cramps too bad, just felt kind of "off" for a couple of days.... and I think that combined with a mild case of baby blues for me as well.  Having it OUT was worse, because the nurse couldn't get a good grip on it and kept catching me and sort of pinching me....  Which made me jump and tense (well how can you not?!) and that made it worse!

Heavens, I'm so glad that I was "spayed" years ago!

MY IUD was  more tha 35 years ago.  No discomfort going in, no cramping afterwards that I recall, however, that might have something to do with the fact that I came down with chicken pox shortly thereafter.  What did hurt was when the sucker turned SIDEWAYS and had to be removed.

I seriously doubt that sort of thing happens these days.  That was the OLD lippy's loup (sp is probably off)

Er Chuffy, the IUD is placed in the same spot that a baby grows.  If he could feel the IUD, he's likely pokin the baby now too...*snort*  But really, its much farther in than say a tampon or the cup or anything else should ever ever go.

the IUD, except for the string, is inside the uterus...even above average no one should be poking around in thereStick out tongue

This made me lol...  Too funny.  There is no way a guy can feel that little thing.  Tell them it's all in their head.  Wink
