thank you all so much for your replies!!! i have attached the link to our puppy and i have calls in to the rep who handled our transaction as we speak! is there anything about this listing that would lead any of you to believe this is a "legit" purchase??

    Thank You!!!!

Well there's no info on the breeder or the sire or dam to go on.  There's no info about health testing, "champion lines" doesn't mean diddley, and we don't even know where the puppy is coming from.  There's basically nothing to suggest this puppy isn't coming from a BYB or mill. :(

This broker is buying puppies and reselling them and making a tidy profit.  Read the guarantee carefully.  My personal and very strong opinion is that buying a puppy via the internet is to be done very carefully and honestly I would never buy a puppy based solely on info provided by an internet site.  Anyone can claim anything on the net and a contract and guarantee are worthless if you are dealing with a scam artist.  Check out the link DougB provided.  I say again. forget your $495 and find a reputable breeder.  Don't get in a rush to buy a puppy and don't fall in love with an internet picture and description.

Depends on what you mean by "legit".  Nothing looks illegal, but these are puppy mill dogs being sold by brokers for outrageous prices.  The guarantee is laughable.  If by "legit" you mean ethical, then absolutely not.

So what, exactly, was the point in your post?  There's no reason to waste other people's time if you have no intention of listening to their advice. Confused

I'm with Amanda on this one!

I took it to mean the right decision was to cut their losses and find someone else....?

    • Gold Top Dog

I did in fact mean that we are (and have) cancelled our contract with this comapny and are on a "better path" to find our next family member....

so, thank you all again for your counsel!

BUT that being said, i am hopeful that the idea of these forums is the thoughtful exchange of ideas and by asking questions and looking for advice isn't considered wasting people's time if by chance the advice from the posts aren't always followed to the letter???..

Of course not.  I think it was a misunderstanding due to your wording.  I was puzzled myself but was assuming you had decided to cancel your contract on that puppy. We do get passionate about dogs around here and I think it was perceived that you were indifferent about what buying from a site such as this can mean to dog welfare in general. I think most of us feel as though we are doing our best to offer advice that's helpful and worthwhile and it can feel like a slap in the face to be blown off.  It's clear now that you didn't do that.  I'm thrilled that you've made the decision to cancel on this puppy and hope to see you stick around.

GET OUT NOW!  Sorry for yelling, but I'd be hesitant to buy any dog from this group, especially a golden given how overbred the breed is and how many health issues can crop up in them.  I've also heard of some resource guarding and dog aggression popping up in some GR lines that have been overbred.

Those problems aren't from "overbreeding" (whatever that is supposed to mean) but often are the result of careless breeding practices. Of course, problems can come up even with the most well planned out breedings, so there is no guarantee. However, you will be stacking the odds in your favor by going to a breeder who health tests, does "stuff" with their dogs and is dedicated to producing dogs who look and act like the breed they are. The sort of breeder you would be looking for won't be selling through a broker but will want to be available as a resource to you before and after you get your puppy.

I apologize.  I read it as though you were thankful for the advice, but that you were going to go ahead & get the pup, but that you'd know better next time.  You most definitely were not wasting anyone's time, if you were open to other's thoughts & opinions.  Again, my mistake & I apologize.

Agile - overbreeding = irresponsible breeding = massive BYBing and milling of a specific popular breed in my vernacular.  Wink

Besides being looking like a puppy millers or brokers (which get them from puppy mills) they are asking far too much and offering far too little (no health checks) for these dogs.
