C.E.T HEXtra Premium Chews by Virbac?

My 9 yr. old cairn had his first dental yesterday as well as having a face cyst and a small chest tumor removed.  The vet had two of these C.E.T. HEXtra Premium Chews in the bag with his antibiotics and discharge instructions.  The flyer they came with described them as oral hygiene chews (rawhide) with Chlorhexidine which helps to prevent plaque build up.  Has anyone used these or know anything about them?  I do not plan to give him one of these each day as the flyer says to do.  I am going to brush his teeth 2-3 x's per week.  His teeth were in pretty good shape, only his canines were discolored, and I do not see how a chew would affect them very much.  Also I do not give him rawhide chews.
