my question has always been where the heck did this myth spring from and should we even be dispelling it!?!?
i mean think about it for a second or two.... maybe three....
top of the line breeders are often thought to be a bit snobby, but you might say that they are looking out for their breed.
if a dog is covered by a different breed and produces mutts for some silly reason its often frowned upon, even 60 to 70 years ago. the pups are curs, mongrels, useless in the pure bred dog show world.. which might make some people angry that its happened to them.
i mean .... someone gets a bad haircut they say "its ruined" even though hair grows back... if a bitch is bred to by a mutt then she is ruined.... for at least a year or two. the breeder has missed several opportunities to show their dog and win ribbons, and to have the chance to breed another top of the line stud.
so if someone mentions that they have a notion to do this cross breeding, or has already done it.... another person might say "i wouldnt do that if i were you. you'll ruin the bitch!"
perhaps its over reacting, but in a good way if your goal is to breed and show.... this myth might also help curb some useless mixed breeding.... but in turn it can also result in
some breeders disposing of the so called "ruined bitch" in a not so nice manner.....
