Maggiesmommy, I'm sorry about your crummy Thanksgiving.  Did he at least bring you any leftovers?

Fruit..he brought me fruit...and he picked out the rasberries!

spiritdog, I am so happy your friends and family made your turkey day so special, and I am so very sorry for your loss...

Anne, I'm so glad that you had at least a pleasant day.  "first" anythings without a love one are always hard.

    ((((hugs))))

Anne, I'm glad you spent the day with friends. It doesn't always make the hurt go away but being with people who understand can sure help.

We just came back from the park where the dogs ran and ran and ran.  They are tired out and crashed.  Except Rex who is pulling squirrel patrol in the yard.  Who knows how many intruders got in while he was gone. lol

     Good boy Rex!

I just did some training with B, just object identification but instead of calming him down he went psycho.

    so much for that LOL

Ann I too am glad you had friends to help you through - it is such a tough time.

Anne - I too am so glad that your day turned out the way it did. I'd really struggled with missing my dad this year and he's been gone 3 years and so I know this must've been an emotional time for you. It's wonderful that you were able to celebrate it with friends who understood.

We had a wonderful dinner at SIL's house and enjoyed visiting with everyone. The food was yummy and although I swore I wouldn't, I ate way too much. I decided that I want to host our Christmas get together this year though. I enjoy doing it and my SIL has hosted way more than her share.

We went to the gym and then to Sports Authority to see what was on sale. I got some good deals on jog bras and DH bought some running clothes. I said it as nicely as I could to the cahier but they have the worst signage imaginable. It's impossible to figure out what exactly is on sale and what isn't. The Nike jog bras I was getting were $28 but I was sure I'd seen a sign that said 25% off. When someone went to check, she came back and said it was hard to tell but that I should get the discount anyway - yay!

We're both tired and it's rainy and cold so I think we'll just veg out the rest of today and enjoy leftovers for dinner.

I gave DH a choice this morning...steaks on the grill of leftovers. He opted for leftovers.  Fine with me! Big Smile

I'm still stuffed too, but I don't think I ate any more than I usually do.  I think it's just the insane variety of foods.  Who normally has stuffing and mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes plus soup and salad at the same meal? I didn't finish it and brought leftover turkey home to Max who enjoyed it immensely.  When we came out of the restaurant a little after 6 p.m. we had to drive past a Best Buy and there were already people camped out there in lawn chairs.  It was chilly and drizzly ... definitely not how would have wanted to spend the night. I figured this would be a good day to take the car in for the 50K mile checkup since everybody would either be sleeping in or in line at some store.  I was right - I was in and out in less than an hour when it usually takes closer to two.

The results are in....no broken/cracked ribs, no pneumonia or growths or anything.....doc tells me it's pleurisy after all. Good thing is I'm not injured or dying....bad news is she said it'll take up to four weeks to go away. Indifferent Four weeks.....gah. I'm to stay on the anti-inflammatories for at least a full 8 more days (hope the tummy stays strong!!), and to call her next Thursday to let her know how this week's pain level compares to next week's. Sigh. I'm glad I'll be fine, but not looking forward of several weeks of pain.

But, TGIF because I have the whole weekend off! Unless things change, looks like I'll be walking a wonderful shelter girl named Georgia, a 7 year old Shepherd mixie, tomorrow in the Santa Claus parade. She's a doll, and she'll make a nice walking partner for a slightly less-than-athletic-right-now person (aka me!) This is her:

Anyway, off for a nice long hot shower....it's what makes my chest feel the best - moist heat. Then looking forward to the possibility of hot chocolate and puppy snuggling. Mmmm what a nice start to a weekend.

Kim, I'm glad you have a diagnosis and I hope you recover soon.  I do remember how painful it was when I had it. :(  Georgia is a doll face. Hope you feel well enough to have a nice weekend.

I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. Tis the season. sigh  My knee is better though and I'm happy about that.  I don't like knee problems.  Been there, done that.

Maggiesmom, sorry about the bad day.

    Anne, you have good friends.

Glenda, do not forget the pictures.

Paige, all I can say is: Turkey soup, turkey casserole, turkey pot pie......

We had a good day for the most part. Kord was off his food last night and this morning and had the trickles, I broke down and put him back on an antibiotic. He is doing much better this afternoon.

We spent yesturday with neighbors and friends, a nice time was had by all, but I ate way to much food, so much that I did not eat again until late this afternoon. Ug, I hate that overstuffed feeling.

Today the neighbor, her daughter and I went and saw new moon. I think we are going to make it a rule we go to the movies once a month, just us girls.

Now, off to enjoy a book, some nice wine and the quiet.

I had a nice T-day with my grandparents.  We went to Golden Corral, and it was very busy.  But we still go in and ate without too much wait.

I must be insane.  I woke up at 5am, on the road at 6:30am, and am back with a puppy.  Oh, well.  He's cute. :-D

    • Gold Top Dog

Ah....open faced turkey sandwiches, with smashed taters and dressing on the side and plenty of pretty heart healthy gravy, since it's made without the drippings.  Of course on homemade bread.......

Now I'm overstuffed again and I ate LESS than normal.  Absolutely has to be the combo of foods.

(So what's the shorthand for future son-in-law??)

From your description of him, I'd just call him the POS. That's just me though....

Anne, it sounds like you have great friends. I'm so glad that they were there with you.

Paige, turkey freezes. Trust me on this one.

I went shopping with a friend today.

I was planning on buying a new car today, but my salesman was an incompetent ass, who insisted on calling me "little lady." I was still willing to shop at their dealership right up until he said "if you want to go ahead & call your husband, he can come down & we can start negotiating." Huh??? I was annoyed & offended so I told him what he could do to himself, & left. Then, I called the general manager of the dealership to let him know how dissatisfied I was.

Then we went shopping. Everything went really well until we got to Old Navy, where I was involved in a minor altercation. We were standing in the line, which was ridiculously long, when this woman came pushing her way through. She shoved the little old lady behind me, & then she shoved me in order to get past. I will say that even though my mother & I don't speak, she did teach me to say excuse me when I bump into someone. I was, admittedly, a little offended at the woman not saying excuse me, so I put my forearm into the middle of her back & launched her into a rack of jeans. She jumped up & started to say something, but I just interupted her & told her that she needed to learn manners because, here, we say excuse me when we bump into someone. By that time, empolyees had gotten to us, & seperated us. The woman told them that the reason that she was pushing her way to the front of the line was because "I only have one item. I shouldn't have to wait in this long line for one thing." The employees showed her to the back of the line to wait her turn.

I am two gifts from being done with Christmas shopping. I can't wait to be finished, so that I can just relax & enjoy the Christmas season.

I need a good spice cake recipe.  Does anyone have a good one?
