Do you live in the sticks Amanda?Wink

    • Gold Top Dog

    That's a loaded question!!

I sort of live in the sticks.  We bought property that, at the time, was in the sticks.  The property around it was bought & developed into a subdivision, so we have 90 acres & we live on the outskirts of a neighborhood.  When we bought the property, we had planned on living in the sticks.  That didn't work out as we had planned, but it has actually turned out better this way.

Well, except for the hog issues....

Are the hogs so mean that you worry about the dogs? Do they have tusks or do the look like farm type pigs?

Coming in almost late enough to make the Tuesday thread lol!  I love reading through all the notes of the day!

I do really enjoy cooking, but not with time constraints, so I rarely do more than cook meat and mix up the ingredients for dog food now.  I'm usually very by the book, but I always measure salt in the palm of my hand like my mom taught me! :)  I'd love to be a sahw/m eventually so I could do more cooking in fact.

I was uber busy today: got my SS package out (should be arriving Wednesday!!), stopped at the bank, picked up rawhides from the store I get them from (25 miles away), worked Kes on basic obedience in downtown Greenville (where the pet supply place is lol), picked up the *cutest* onesie for my BFF's daughter (due in April), stopped by a bike shop to browse reflective gear for DH's new bike habit (ouch! pricey!), swung by an outdoors place to pick up some sale stuff, and then headed home where I finished up laundry and vacuuming.  Cleaning the home office will have to wait until Thursday unfortunately.

Don't tell DH, but I think I'm starting to hear my clock a bit - never have until recently but all of a sudden I can't help but browse baby stuff at Target and I have the feeling my BFF's daughter is going to be getting some extra stuff because of it lol.  I know we don't want a child for another 4 years or so, but now I'm actually really anticipating it rather than just figuring it'll happen because I'll be ready at a later date.  Perhaps it's a very good thing I'm likely getting an IUD next month lol.

I work Tues/Wed, off Thursday, work Fri/Sat, off Sun/Mon so this week is going to be really odd I think.

Hogs are unpredictable.  Some will run when they encounter people & dogs.  Others will charge, & with dogs who don't know how to handle them (mine) they can cause very serious damage.

They have longer tusks.  They look similar to domestic pigs, though they do have a more coarse coat.  Here is a pic, not mine, that gives you an idea of what they look like.  Next time that they are close to the house, I'll try to get a few pics before we shoot them.

Of course.  I haven't read any of the other posts leading up to this, but of course you had to post a pic of hogs with babies and then talk about shooting them.  Of Course!  I am no going to read the rest of the posts.  I'll catch up tomorrow.  Going to bed to have nightmares of squealing piglets with no mommas...sniff...

The only wild hog I've ever seen chased me up a tree MANY years ago

Glenda, I hate to tell you this, but Florida is full of wild hogs, too.  Not sure how much in the panhandle, but central FL is loaded with them.  Meg can tell you about it - Samsula and Oak Hill are loaded. :D

Glenda, if your DH prefers the canned cranberry sauce, you can cut the sweetness down.  Get a can of the whole berry sauce and toss in some red onion, cilantro, cayenne, diced green chiles and a bit or orange juice and shredded orange peel. It makes kind of a cranberry salsa.
