You know, what's the point of helping a coworker who feels there's no problem in throwing you under the bus for something she misunderstood, and she didn't take responsibility for, that was under her control?  Really?  (edited to remove excessive whining) I wish I had a punching bag.  [Whining over.]

I got Gracie a light purple/lavendar colored color on clearance yesterday, and, I actually like it on her!  I'm surprised that a pale purple would look good on her, but she looks like a girl puppy today. :D  She doesn't care - she could be in rhinestones and camouflage and wouldn't care.

Ummm, isn't caffeine one of those things that is bad for dogs?

Corky has been laying eggs again over the weekend.

We are getting the rain tomorrow.

When we actually HAVE leftover mshed taters, which isn't often since I make the "real" thing, I make Shepherds pie.  You can make it with about any leftover meat, or just cook up some ground beef, nicely seasoned, mix that with beef gravy and a bag of frozen corn.  Put it in a caserole dish, cover with the mashed taters, dot with butter and sprinkle with parsley (fresh tastes better).  It only really needs to bake long enough to heat the corn through and crisp up the taters a bit.

DIL always hated shepherds pie since she had grown up with it "greasy".  Then she tasted mine and now loves it.  That was one of the recipes I included in the recipe box I sent them....DS does most of the cooking.....

So, busy day already.  My moving fund (thanks to the lottery) is now only $4415 short!  UHaul is so danged expensive, and of course there is the trip UP there, hotels, gas, food, etc. I've looked into other methods, but, UHaul is still the cheapest.  I'd love to do a POD, but can't get one on that end......  I've got pea gravel coming either this afternoon or tomorrow for the station...had to run out and pay for it, so the we'll get to move all two yards of the stuff!  And MY yard guy is going to tend to the mess there as well.  Funny story....the old guy who lives in the house in front of the station, added on right into station property.  OK, not a huge big deal to the owner, but, in return, he's supposed to keep our property mowed...but, his tractor keeps breaking so it hasn't been mowed in 3 months now....and some spots are up to my waist!  My guy is going to have to bush hog this time to get it under control.

So, I now have a whooping 3 hours to get my PSA's written, my show prep done, and my house cleaned. Oh yeah, suppose that I need to cook dinner.......

Have I mentioned lately how much I hate Mondays?

Great command you taught Bevo, Amanda!  Go fetch Coffee and sandwich....ROFL.

So, here's the short story of the bomb that was dropped on our family today.  My SIL has COPD....and has dealt with it for years....her illness is quite advanced at this point.  She lives in a nursing home which is paid by Medicaid.  When she was placed there about 8 months ago, her son took on the responsibility of making sure the home was paid appropriately.  We were all so proud of him; the way he had turned around his previously bad way of living and taken on the caregiving of his mom.  (He's gotten into trouble in the past, which we all attributed somewhat to immaturity.)

Anyway, we learned this morning that the home has given SIL notice that she is going to have to leave due to non payment.  After digging, DH has learned that over the last 8 months, only $2,500 of the $8,400 due the home was paid.  WTF!!!!  Indifferent   OMG, not only is nephew in gargantuan trouble with DH, he has commited fraud.  How stupid can one be?  Really?

DH has met with the Directors of the home and has removed nephew from the responsible family member; and has taken over as the responsible party on her behalf.

Oh, and about 6 months ago, DH offerred one of his trucks to nephew to help him get to work and such.  He was to make monthly payments and gave him 2 full months before he was to make his first payment.  To date, he has made 1 payment.  1.

The truck is coming back to DH and will be sold to help pay the backcharges to the home.

Thankfully, DH did go IN and talk to the Directors of the home, and they are willing to work with him.  They will not be booting SIL out.

DH will be having the talk with nephew later today.  Fit is going to hit the Shan.

    Good grief!

Paige, I'll loan you Bevo for a bit.  He'll gladly teach Gracie to be more fashion forward! Tongue Tied

Glenda, sheperd's pie sounds awesome!!  The mashed potatoes are the real thing, the only way Derek (born and raised in Ireland) will eat them lol.  And I know he loooves sheperd's pie, I didn't even think about it!  And if I make enough, it will last us a few nights :D  Thanks!

Barbara, how horrible!  Does your SIL have a power of attorney done?  if it's in her son's name, then your DH might consider seeing if your SIL will change it to your DH, there would then be less "red tape" involved in getting her stuff back on track.  I hope all turns out well!

Agreed on all of the above.  That really sucks.  At least she has your DH.  I honestly worry about people who have nobody other than a shifty relative looking out for their well-being... one who could dump them out on the street like that.  It's part of why my charitable contributions go to homeless organizations.

It's going to snow heavily again on Weds.  (Snowed this weekend.. hello, kids, this is October!)  Weds is the Nuggets season opener, which my sister got suite tickets for - 65% discount at work, woohoo!  I love basketball, she does not, but I hope the Suite wins her over so we can keep going.

Still pouring down rain.  Enough already.  Biting tongue for saying that! lol  I changed Rex's app't to tomorrow.  I don't feel like driving home to get him.  It's just a rattlesnake vaccine, nothing that can't wait.

Barb, sounds like something that happened in DH's family when my FIL had a stroke and oldest son, not my DH, was put in charge of finances.  We discovered years later that much money was mishandled and lost.  Not due to embezzlement, just very poor money management.  The amount lost due to his laziness was deducted from his portion of the estate when FIL died.   My SIL spent days and days figuring this amount, she was that mad at her brother.

Bevo, I'd like a hot chocolate and some lemon cake when you get a minute. lol

Lauren, I was going to suggest potato pancakes but shepherd's pie sounds very tasty.  I've never made it because we never have leftover mashed potatoes.  I guess I could make some just for a recipe but that seems wrong somehow. lol

Lily's mum, great news about Ben!!  So glad he's back to work with no restrictions.

Someone just sent me a very disturbing video titled "don't text while driving".  The people who need to see it don't believe it will happen to them.

still in NY and finally got to see my Aunt today-  she looks terrible and it can't be long - not eating struggling to drink and painfully thin.  Being blunt she looks very corpse like.  Sigh.  It is why I am here but still tough to see.

Got an email from DH this morning that his mom is now on what they term 'end of life pathway' - basically lots of painkillers to ease her exit. sigh

Worst case scenario is I am heading back here for a funeral the same time he heads to the UK for one.  Meanwhile I have B's surgery scheduled for Nov. 5th. sigh

I suppose if he is laid up it will be easier to get someone to care for him if we both have to travel.

Never forget that the first line of "The Road Less Traveled" is, 'Life is difficult.'

Truer words have rarely been uttered

Oh, just the other day, I was driving to The Woodlands and all of a sudden this SUV that was right beside me started coming over into my lane!!  I mean coming right on over...I layed on my horn.  That woke him up.  And, yes....it was a very very young person (must have just gotten the license....looked like a child) who was holding his phone in his hand as he got control of his car.  I KNOW he was texting....I just KNOW it.  Scared the living daylights out of me.

Oh, and Bevo.....Green Tea and coffee cake for me when you get a minute....Mmmkay?

DH and nephew had "the talk."  DH said the longer the talk went, the lower nephews head was hanging.  DH gave him a couple of options to try to rectify the ugly mess he has made.  Now that he is in the picture....things will get fixed.

Karen, sending positive thoughts to you and your family.

Can you send it to me, Jackie.  I probably do need to see it.  :(

Bev is working on the hot chocolate & lemon cake.

Glenda, I told him that he needed to switch to decaf.  I'm hopeful that he'll listen.

If you lived close, I'd keep Bugs for you.  :(

Amanda, I sent you that video.

Karen, {{{Hugs}}}}  I'd keep Bugs for you too, if I could.  I might try and send Belle back to you and keep Bugsy.  Wait, that's just crazy talk. lol

Rain, rain, rain!!  The temps have dropped from 70 this morning to 50 something.   Brrrr.  Now if I had some homemade bread warm from the oven and some nice chicken soup, I'd be a happy woman.

Girl, get yourself the grocery store freezer and snag a bag of OreIda frozen mashed potatoes.  They come in these cute little nuggets and you just figure out how many you need and toss them in the microwave for a few minutes.  They really are very good and they come in regular, garlic and sweet. Big Smile

I'll have to give them a try.  How bad can they be when they're that easy?   My last experience with any sort of mashed potatoes, other than homeade, were those horrible instant flakes that you added hot water or milk to reconstitute.  Fast food has come a long, long way. lol
