Thanks guys - so far so good. My mom should have been able to visit him by now, I think, but the doc said he did well in the surgery.
I'm still really thankful that my middle sister (the one I live with here in Denver) is flying home to help my mom. She's staying until Weds morning. Meanwhile, my poor mom, through tears of accepting the help, had an honest moment and said "I can't wait to shove this down your sister's throat." - referring to my older sister who lives in NH, has taken advantage of every bit of help my parents give her, but couldn't manage to come walk the dog once today. I had to laugh that my poor mom even had the thought, but she's right.
EDIT TO ADD Update on my dad: My mom just called and she's with my dad. At one point a nurse came in, and I heard her tell the nurse "Just a heads up that he's going to need an assist to the bathroom. No rush but he thought he might have a need. So, if he could get some help to go piddle, that would be great." I said - "MOM, he's not a puppy!!! He's a man!"
She laughed and then put the phone up to my dad who just said "I love you" and I said the same and hope he feels better soon, he replied thank you and that was understandably all he could manage. He's in pain, and he sounds pretty groggy/not good right now.
Sarah, I'm really sorry to hear the tough news about your mom. I'm sending good thoughts to her, your dad, and you that you're right and they've caught whatever might be there early, so that she can have a good recovery.
This morning, on my train (light rail) ride to work, I imagined what I would do with my (fantasy) lottery winnings.... it's so nice to dream about my new car, new house, things I could do for others, etc.... *sigh*
