AND OBAMA WINS!

I can't help it if the media makes a big deal out Sarah Palin's clothes and doesn't have a problem with Obama's handmade tailored suits and what he spent on the Grant Park Party.

I do enjoy the points you make Ron, seriously, even when I do not agree you make me think and often grin. Smile  So here is my small take on the comment above about Palin's clothes and Obama's suits....

The media did not discuss ANY of the men's suits .... Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, or the Plumber Dude..... It was bound to happen and it was not something kicked up by the Dems.   Each year we hear about the potential first ladies , who is hotter , who looks like your grandmother, who is a B*ll Breaker and who is so compliant they are practically Jello.  We , as in the non military obsessed portion of the voting public,  talk about the plans the candidate's wives have for redecorating , for public works,  Shoot I remember one year when there was a snotty stink over cookie recipies!! So commenting on Palin's wardobe was a given.  She , being the first female to run on this level should have expected it.

Do I care that the GOP dressed her ? Nah.... I didn't care that she liked consignment shops either as I also shop at them. It surely could have started a trend . The most likely concern that brought out the GOP Check book was the power type women of today , the Cashmere Mafia if you will would not be likely to respect a woman who can not appreciate the concept of designer power.  They recognize there is strength in being able to dress, dress well and  not simply  recognize the next trend but in all likelyhood start it.  Women appreciate the intelligence that can manipulate a generation.

President Kennedy once said something to the effect that " No one ever wanted to know what   Lyndon or I are going to wear, they  always wanted to know what Jackie was wearing."

if I may  personally will comment on Obama's wardrobe,

the man can wear a suit and wear it well.   Changing Color Heart  Bouncing Heart  Blinking Heart Vote Obama   Blinking Heart  Bouncing Heart  Changing Color Heart  ( I am not talking about a random hunk just style)

Some men really do tend to be worn by the suit they pull off of the hanger. They look uncomfortable no matter who designed it or what was paid for it. Others can make an off the rack suit look like it was made for them only.   I would hazzard a guess that Barrack appreciates fine tayloring, but could just as easily grab that old leather jacket and scarf, throw on some jeans and slip right back to his college wardrobe.  It is actually important to me that our President be able to wear his suit with confidence. When I look at a press gathering and there is our president, with other world leaders,  I want "my guy" to look like he is in his element. Not pulling at  his cuffs, collar or playing with his button on his jacket.  So far he has not disapointed.

The donation of the Campaigne wardrobe to raise money via auction is yet another long time femme celebre happening. This has been done for ages. Movie Stars, politicians, local mover and shakers have all done it.  Oprah is big on doing what amounts to a cyber garage sale for her favorite causes.  No one wants to wear the same clothes again on National TV in 4 years so why not sell them and raise money??  IT is doubtful she would wear the bigger designer lables to the hockey rink. The clothes thing was a National non issue until she had a little ( I would guess exhaustion fueled) Snot fest with the media the other day, then instead of sounding like a sophisticated woman who was laying ground work for 2012 she just sounded like a runner up at a beauty pagent.  Beauty Pageant and That was a shame.

I'd just like to add here that I don't think any of the snide remarks regarding SPs wardrobe were directed at her, but rather at the GOP who felt they had to spend that amount of money on clothes/hair/make-up.  The woman admitted she shops at consignment stores (as do I, and you can add thrift stores to that) so I highly doubt that she asked to be taken on a cross country Neiman Marcus spree that cost roughly $250K.  Had the party  taken a good look at her when she got the nomination, they would have seen a very attractive woman who does a good job dressing herself and doing her own hair and make-up. They might have brought in a consultant, much like the ones who help people get ready to be seen on TV, but they didn't need to go so far overboard IMO.

I agree Joyce.   Just everyong trying to make the whole party look bad--don't vote for them!

But what they are doing to  her now is totally stupid!

From the polls I've seen 60% felt that SP had helped the GOP ticket, while only 20% felt that she had HURT the cause.

I agree that what is being done to the woman now is without cause, and, here we go again, the press vultures need to find some other prey to feed on.  Whether I personally like the woman or not, whether I wanted to see her a heartbeat away from the Oval Office, regardless of what I think of her qualifications or her anything else, and regardless of what I have said about the wardrobe or the cost of hair/makeup, she does not deserve to be made into the goat.

But, perhaps that is the intention of the party?  To bring out defensive feelings for the woman from those of us who didn't want to see her party win?

I could also ask what are the intentions of the press? To paint a picture of her that would hinder chances of her running in 2012, if she so chose? Regardless of who won or our differences in political opinions, economics, whatever, I have lost faith in investigative journalism. The issues I had about Obama were not detailed in the mainstream, such as NBC, et al. Whereas, we nearly know what color underwear Palin is wearing. If it looks like bias, smells like bias, sounds like bias, it might just be bias. Seriously, I think we hashed the issues of the candidates more fully in this little ole dog forum than the mainstream media could hope to accomplish. The very people of this forum are engaging in more investigation than I am seeing from those who are supposed to bring us just the news. In spite of what appears to me to be media bias, the election was still very close in the popular vote. That means a lot of people ignored the media and still voted on the issues, as they saw fit.

I want to see Rice run. Is she "qualified" to run? She has as many qualifications as anyone else. Even though she would be strong on defense, I think she would have to distance herself from the fumbling of Rumsfeld and Bremel. And the choice of those people to run the Iraq issue is one of Bush's abysmal failures. If I were Obama, I would fire Bremel, and sidestep Rumsfeld and deal directly with the generals on the ground.

I may disagree with Obama on some things, though I do hope he scales back NAFTA and brings companies back to America. If he loans money to the auto industry and keeps them here, you guys in MI may finally get back in the money. I can understand that. My friend David, from high school, voted for Obama, primarily because McCain was going to extend and write more HB visas, which allows others from other countries to come in to his expertise (IT and computer programming) and undercut american wages. As David put it, he would be out of a job. Never mind that a number of these off-shore sources are not as good as he is. The bottom dollar has been defining it for a long time.

Truthfully, I think some of Obama's more centrist policies can help, especially if they create jobs. But that would rely on such policy decisions, rather than raising taxes. If you get people back to work, then you have more people able to work and pay taxes.

And the best we can do is support our country as best we can and respect the man as President of the USA. I've yet to fully agree with any sitting president. I expect to be the same this time, too.

I absolutely agree, Glenda.  Someone in the McCain camp (I forget who) actually referred to her family as "a bunch of Wasilla hillbillies, rampaging across the country looting Neiman Marcus stores."  Totally uncalled for, IMO.  I think they're ticked off because  their party lost so badly and they're looking to blame someone.  She just  happens to be an easier target than some of the others.

    Excellent post.

And lest anyone think I am a great Obama lover or have switched politics or have abandoned my meaning of conservatism, I have not. I still believe in reduced taxes, limited govt intervention (a necessary evil. like strong medicine, best taken in small doses.) But fair is fair. Obama won. He is essentially the next president. As an american, I support any president as best as I can, in spite of differences. I hope he can do some good things for this country and I think his economic policies will get tempered by the market, etc. And rather than pee and moan, I would rather look to the next day and work toward a better tomorrow, which may be led, at least somewhat, by Obama. He may or may not save the world but if he can get us through the next four years, that's as good as any president can do.

It is the land of the free, home of the brave. We are one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Ummmm, Ron?  Are you agreeing or disagreeing with the portions of my post that you quoted?  Just to be clear.....
