High energy dogs are nothing new for me and Maze is also a high energy dog.

High energy is not what I would caution you about!  These dogs are high drive with the emphasis on drive!  They are extremely predatory and often dog aggresive.  I have seen pictures of Jack Russell's with their faces completely torn up and mutilated by a badger underground and the dog's were not trying to get away but had to be dug out of the hide and pulled off!  They are tough little dogs and they were bred to take no prisoners!  Not trying to discourage you but want you to know that it's not just energy you will be dealing with.  I'm sure that the AKC will have bred them all into fluffy little balls of neurosis in a few years but the Jack Russell Terrier is a hunting dog.  I love the breed but they are not for everyone.

I understand that. Smile  I want the drive and I'll do my best not to put her in a situation that she'll chase something without my OK. My training club is starting to offer Go to Ground for the terriers so I'll be enrolling her in that as well as agility and rally.

VM I don't think Horton would be a good name for a female.. Lol. Smile

As long as Maze doesn't mind the drive, you might be ok...   Anyway, how about "Hortense" LOL???

    • Gold Top Dog

As far as I can tell, Maze doesn't mind high drive dogs but I am setting up an Xpen for the pup incase it gets to be to much every once in a while..

And no.. Not Hortense...Stick out tongue I'm thinking Josie but not sure..

Well thats' just great. yay. My dad has fallen in love with little terriers like that so I do have a few tips.

They LOVE little fun games like fetch played in the yard or just playing by themselves with a ball so basically hinting that MANY MANY tennis balls are a must have for this breed.

And I definetly agree about training from the 1st day. If Jacks learn any different they become little terrors lol.

And do you have a fenced-in-yard??? Or at least a tie-out?

One of my dads climbed up a chain-link fence lol so they are like hamsters the little Houdini's lol.

One LONG walk a day is also a must.

Well got carried away a bit there but still I hope you have a VERY VERY fun time with your puppy. From Bro, Cuds, and Pos.

(And we do need LOTSA LOTSA pics pls) Thanks
