    BAD dog-mom!!! (jm)

so it's my birthday today. but since i am celebrating it with my friends and my mom also doesnt have time today, i went there last night to celebrate INTO my birthday with her. nothing fancy. just nice dinner and some wine. well she lives like 30-45 min away from town. now we used to live there years ago, and you could always find a cab until 1 or 2 am. no problem!! well last night i was leaving 12:30! seriously. just happy birthday! open presents, then leave. (my mom still has to work today). well, no cabs! we tried for quite a bit. it was dead!!!! my mom doesnt have her car yet, so no chance there either!! last bus goes at 11:30. i had last taken the dogs out in the afternoon!!!

i was not happy. cried myself to sleep. poor dogs were alone and crated for over 12 hours as a result of this! i woke up this morning at 5:45 to take the first bus into town! well, they were good dogs! no messes! they were just happy to see me!

BAD dog-mom! needless to say i am never doing THAT again! Sad

OH NO! I would have been really upset, too.

But to comfort you, Pirate is just as happy to see me after 5 minutes as he is after 5 days. I'm sure your dogs didn't watch the clock ticking or anything :)

Aboslutely.  Don't let it ruin  your HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Dogs have a terrible sense of time.  As long as you don't make a habit of it.

One time, I got stuck at a friends' house after my van broke down.  She couldn't drive me home - I lived an hour away, she had two kids and I had two, and three dogs with me, and the only vehicle she had was a truck with a bench seat.

I had left Maggie at home inside and I was sure she'd have to potty in the house.  I felt terrible.  It was the weekend in a tiny non-town and I wasn't going to be able to get anyone to even look at my van for two days!

I finally got a hold of friends who lived 30 miles from our farm, and asked them to go let Maggie out into the fenced yard and feed and water everyone.  When they got there, the house was perfectly clean after Maggie had been locked up for more than 24 hours!

Gail said she'd never seen a dog pee that long in her life, though, or look so happy to do it.  lol.  They were happy to keep checking in during the rest of my involuntary vacation at my other friend's home so everything worked out fine.  Since then I've made sure that I either leave dogs where they can be comfortable in case we're gone a while, or else in the yard if it's safe (since we live literally a mile from every closest neighbor and have multiple dog-proof fences all the way around).
