Cervical cancer,HPV, and all that

i used to be HPV positive ( it's been clear/negative the last 5-7 years)  I found out i was 'abnormal' when I was about 18, and had only had one partner.  I've had the cryosurgery ( freezing the abnormal cells) done twice, and have had so many paps I couldn't even count them, I think i was getting one every 3 months ( so now this once a year stuff is no problem!!).  When I 'had' it there was no prevention like they have now, but luckily my system seemed to have cleared it on it's own - or it least it's not showing up anymore.  I think i was 'high risk' for almost 4 years, that was alot of pap smears!!

don't freak out, just go to the next step - the colposcopy, it's more common than you think - people just dont talk about it since it's an 'STD'.

also i thought that was wasnt a canidate for Guardasil, but my doctor gave it to me anyways.

Abnormal pap smears, yup I have had them.

I had a colposcopy a few years back and it too came back abnormal. I got to have a LEEP procedure done. They literally go in and remove a layer of your cervix. I didn't have a problem with the procedure. I had to go back for pap smears every 6 months for 2 years, then returned to annual exams. I have been fine since.

I am a fairly laid back person. My doctor said it was "no big deal" so I believed him. I also have a friend who is an OB/Gyn she too said "no big deal". My sister was freaking out though. It was fine. I actually went out to the barn to ride after the procedure. I rode 2 horses by the third horse the anesthetic had worn out and I felt like I had minor cramps. So I took it easy the rest of the day. Life returned to normal.

Try not to get too worried. Good Luck
