    half.com help please!

HELP! I listed a textbook for sale on half.com. I get an email today that says that it has been sold. I printed out the shipping labels and everything, and it says that i have to ship it by thursday. Well, i looked @ the feedback of the person who bought it from me. The only feedback said that they didn't pay for their item. I looked @ the payment status and it said pending. Does this mean that they have submitted a payment? I don't know what to do, i don't wanna lose $80!

I would NOT ship until the payment clears - that is always my policy on eBay.  Contact the buyer and tell them you will ship when payment clears. Period.

100% agree!  Do not ship unless they pay.

half.com isn't like ebay -- the buyer pays half.com and they pay you.  There is no way for them to order the book without paying half.com and the payment will say pending for a while -- half.com only does payments to the sellers 2x a month.  I've never never never had a problem with half.com since they are the ones who pay you.  This is why they take a commission of so much, since they are the middle man.  You have no option to have the buyer pay you directly like on ebay where you can accept a check or something if you choose.  The payments goes right into your bank account

If you like, there is all this information in the half.com help sections, I went through it all when we started selling books on half.com and we've probably sold 50 so far for two college careers.  I only once had any sort of issue and we were the buyer in that case.  We bought a book and when it came, the binding and the book were not attached so we contacted the seller since that is explicitly not a sellable book by half.com standards (well, at least if you list it "like new" with no mention of this damage!) so the seller agreed we could return it, rather than us file through half.com.  When they got the book, they tried to tell us that we must have damaged it and threatened to sue us.  But anyways, that was as a buyer not seller.

I personally wouldn't worry about it since the feedback is for both ebay AND half.com but half.com is totally different than ebay.  Sometimes you can look at the feedback and see if it's from ebay or not.

We posted at the same time, LOL -- but I have a question.  Half.com does reimbursements only twice a month.  So you might hold a book for two weeks before you shipped it?  Wow hope I never buy from you since with media mail it might take over 3 weeks to get a book!  Or did you then ship priority?

I can see waiting if it were ebay but with half.com being the one to pay you I think it is lower risk than ebay, IMO.

it has been a while since i sold anything. so i dont remember the exact process, but i waited until there was some confirmation that the buyer had paid. if the payment was pending, i never sent anything.

I haven't bought or sold on half.com but have sold tons of books on amazon and I'll stand by my send when payment clears or I suppose I would wander through half.com to find out what 'pending' means to them.  I get that they only pay out 2x a month but that shouldn't be indicated by a 'pending' statement IMHO - at least I am sure that even though Amazon does the same it doesn't say 'pending'.

    But I don't use half.com

I'm pretty sure "pending" means payment has been submitted but it just hasn't cleared or been approved by the bank yet.  Whenever I use my debit card at a local store it's up on line as soon as I get home, but it usually says "pending" until the next day.

Good news, one thing still says pending, but the other thing says received. So i guess it's all good!

I haven't seen half.com before, but if you used usps.com to print out your shipping label I think you have 24hrs to cancel it for those 'what if' moments like you had. so it least you know you'd get your shipping charges back.  Hope that helps in the future :)
