We recycle everything. The only problem is the county has failed in their attempt. Now, my little town is going to try it and hopefully succeed, so that we can get rid of a few bags of stuff waiting to be recycled. We cash in soda cans.
I eat low fat and non-fat stuff now and have lost about 30 lbs because of that.
I traded in my old truck with its (at best) 19 mpg for a new Vibe that gets 33 mpg. I try to arrange trips for maximum efficiency mainly because I don't want to spend more for gas than I have to spend.
My one downfall is that I, like my dog, am part Husky. I must have it cool in the house to sleep. So, at night, I get it down to 70 F. And I pay an averaged electric bill to cover that. What it means is that I pay around 200 dollars a month all year around but it avoids super high bills in July and August, when we get temps of 100 + F. My old ac will knock down 30 degrees.
DW will even recycle zip lock baggies if they only had dry stuff in them.
We have two composters for vegetable and fruit scraps. So, we can create our own fertilizer for the flower beds.
I use old newspapers as a firestarter in my charcoal lighter can. You put the newspaper under the bottom and briquets in the top and light the newspaper. The used charcoal and smoking wood go in the open air composter with twigs and leaves. The vegetables go in the closed composter.
We also recycle plastic shopping bags. Either turning them in at the store or keeping them in a hanging keeper MIL made for us to be used as something to carry things in.
You can also recycle your coffee grounds and filters in the compost.
