    rwbeagles-So it's due to be 103-105 today

My son has a T Ball game tonight at 7pm. Last week it was also about 100 at that time in the sun. The backstop we were assigned to was in FULL SUN. The kids were really miserable in warm ups so we moved to another unused backstop after both coaches put their heads together and decided to.

Now today...even hotter. Mind you official temps are taken in the shade. Our car's thermo was reading 114 most all day as it's parked in the sun.

I am thinking play should maybe not go on....or am I being overprotective? Elias sweats like a piggy anytime over 70 degrees mostly...doc says that shows his body is working to cool him off...we just need to keep rehydrating as he sweats. BUT she said this when I asked her a year ago...and not in conjunction with playing hard, running, etc.

There IS a heat advisory today, I think. I wrote a note to the Y to see what they say...

Doesn't seem overprotective to me. I can't even imagine sitting in that heat let alone playing a sport - ugh!! They had to take several kids to the hospital a few weeks ago when we were in the triple digits and that was from a water park, which you'd think wouldn't be as bad. Hopefully the coach will have a heart and cancel but I wouldn't be afraid to opt out if he doesn't.

I don't think you are being unreasonable.  It seems that when bad things happen due to heat, it happens fast.  People and dogs don't realize how they are being affected until it's too late.  We don't hold agility classes if it's above 95 because our heat is very humid (95 is typically 105-110) and our club is up on a hill with no shade on the field and the classes are held after dinner when the sun is still high and hot.  The dogs are often so excited they don't know how to self-regulate and can't tell us when they will heat stroke b/c they are so focused on agility.  Last summer we postponed two weeks in a row.  If I won't work my dog at 95 degrees I don't think I'd want my kid playing in the sun at 115.  Also, it's supposed to be FUN, and who can have fun in those conditions?

When it's too hot, it's just too hot. At the school I work, we cancel recess when we it gets up to 100° (shade). Heat exhaustion is fast and furious; you are not being overprotective, I think.

Especially true I think if you have humidity.  It's that combination of heat & humidity that will wipe you out.

Imagine being in that heat and wrestling with an 800 lb transformer while enjoying the texture and aroma of dust and diesel fumes. And being my age. It just doesn't get any better. Yum.

Well, I can sympathize. It's practically too hot to live here. Today seemed like the worse day of all so far.

well they played. the backstop was pretty shaded...and there was plenty of water. It's actually cooled off to below 100 by then. I left early to take kiddo #1 to swimming...but DH said they called the game early because the other team was calling our kids out and thus got to bat more...then their coach said "oh well that's enough"...LOL.

Wow!  I didn't realize that stuff set in as early as T-Ball.  I figured it would be more likely to show up in Majors.

TBall seems very coach specific. If the coach is laid back the game is laid back...Johnny can bat til he hits the ball and we all clap when he runs to first base...even tho technically he's out. If tightbuns coach is out there the kid is "out" after 3 misses....there are no outside umps or anything at the Y so...you just go with the flow.

I am happy our coach is a laid back type. Smile

Glad they could play and be comfortable.  It was not that hot here, but so humid, and it actually feels the hottest at 5-7pm (not around noon like you'd think).  At agility everyone was dripping in sweat and every few minutes we had the dogs in the pool getting wet or at least getting their bellies wet.
