    $283 later, Emma is fine

Oh, Emma, how I love you!

Today, Emma was sitting on a grooming table next to the door of the grooming area, watching me help a customer pick out chewies for her new puppy. The table is kept low, and her bed is on it. She sits on this table EVERY DAY. Her little head disappeared, and I assumed that she'd hopped down, like always. I continued with that customer, and helped another, and went back to praise her for behaving. She was hunched over, at the door, and there was urine all over the floor. She was upset that she'd peed, but she kept saying, "It hurts, it hurts, it hurts!"

Of course, I called the vet. It was a quarter til 5, but they are open til 7 on Mondays. They said to come on. Emma was knocked out, and x rayed. She has a lot of soft tissue damage to her right hip, and existing arthritis in her left hip and lower back. It was a lovely set of x rays. I'm thrilled that she doesn't have HD. The vet says we're doing everything right. She probably just slipped, or landed funny. She's not allowed to hop up or act crazy for the next week, and if she's still feeling crappy tomorrow, I'm supposed to let him know.

Right now, she's pretty out of it. I washed her this morning, but of course... the sedative made her barf. She laid in it. She expressed her anal glands, and peed on herself when we rolled her over to get the pictures. Poor kiddo. She had to have another bath, when she got home. I just sat on the edge of the tub, draped her over my lap, and bathed her. I asked them not to reverse the sedative. The more she relaxes, the faster she'll heal. She's starting to come out of it, now.

OH!  Poor Emma!  You just take it easy!  Let Mom do everything for you and get your rest!

Poor Emma and poor you. I know it was a rough time for both of you but I'm glad she's okay and had a bubble bath before bed. Maybe you could use one for yourself with candles and a glass of wine  Wink

What scared me.... I sat there and WATCHED it swell. It was soooo hot! She's had... *cough* drugs, now. She doesn't look swollen, anymore, but her muscles are mush, so it's hard to tell anything. It was so funny, carrying her around (she fought the mild sedation they gave her, and even knocked out, the girl is kennel shy! She was flashing teeth at the techs, poor thing! Her brain is all cloudy, she couldn't help it). She is jello. I stuffed her into Ena's carrying bag (yes, I have a dog bag, but I have a toy sized puppy who can't keep up), and her head bobbed up and down, her tongue hung out. I'm sure it looked... special.

Thankfully, I used to work for this vet. He's pretty understanding of my undying weirdness. I was able to stay with her the whole time, and positioned her for x rays. She didn't fight at all, unless somebody else's hands were on her. They also let me write THREE checks, instead of just one. That's soooo helpful!

Oh no, Emma! I hope she starts feeling better ASAP!

Isn't it amazing what they can get themselves in to?! I'm glad Emma's on the mend... poor little girl. Gotta be more careful, Ems!

Aww poor girl, I hope Emma starts to feel better soon.

Poor little girl whined all night. Her extremities were cold, so I heat packed her, and "slept" with her on my chest. This morning, when she decided not to eat, I knew she needed some more help. I had to groom a couple of dogs, this morning, so I made her all snug in her crate, and left. As soon as the vet opened, I called for a laser appointment.

When I came home, to pick her up, she was still all whiney and limpy. I took her out to pee, and she walked a few steps, then laid down and cried. I picked her up, and loaded her into the car, and we went to the vet. She kept turning around during the laser treatment (it only takes... maybe 5 minutes?) trying to figure out what they were about to do. It's totally non invasive, and it doesn't hurt at all. When we left, she wanted to eat. I did the bad thing and went to Wendy's for a Jr Bacon Cheeseburger, minus the bun and cheese. Of course, that's Emma's absolute FAVORITE, so she scarfed it. Now, we're home, and she's walking around ok. She pottied fine. She doesn't *want* to jump up or do the steps, so that's good. In a day or two, I'm going to have to limit her.

Sometimes you just have to do the junk food "feel better" thing.  It helps them cope.  Feel better Emma.  SLEEP better tonight, Jen
