Callie you can also make a WONDERFUL fruit Bar like a Brownie. My friends all call them Bwana Bars because they are Grain Free.
For our Sweet cookies we do a simple one, I use peeled sweet potatoes baked till tender enough to mash. Add any supplements I want the dogs to have, I normally use the sweet treats for my calming treats adding calamine, rescue remedy and st john's wort 20 Vit E capules melted in half a cup of boiling water , 6-8 good sized sweet potatoes , mashed, 2-3 jars of Gerbers fruits any variety but I like berries for any antioxident effects that may still be there Some blue berries and 6 eggs . The Vit E acts as a Perservative. Everything is mushed and mashed together by hand or in a food processor then pressed into a cookie sheet , these are baked at 375 for about 30 minutes, check them carefully to make sure they are setting up like a brownie but not burning. Set on the stove for 10 -15 minutes and the cut into tiny bars, pop them in the freezer until nice an hard and then put them into a zip lock baggie. It makes about 50 -80 small bars and they last in the freezer until the dogs all polish them off !! I do a HUGE baking day at my place about 4 times a month.
here are the sweet bars then the meat ones which have all of the Joint Soothers ( Glucosamine, Chodroitin and MSM, ) Omegas 3, 6 and 9, folic acid, Flaxseed oil, flaxseeds Organinc cottage cheese, eggs, tumeric and one of the following meats liver ( boiled and pureeded with beef broth) Lean Hamburger,( both with a bit of garlic) or Salmon and Ground Turkey with Rosemary and Basil . Then I use boiled Potatoes mashed as the binder. Pressed again in cookie sheets and baked at 400 for 30 -45 minutes. no crumbles are eevry wasted as these treats are high yums and even dogs undergoing radiation for a mouth cancer like my friend's Irish wolfhound who turns her nose up at every thing else will demamd these. Messy but beyond wonderful for grain free dogs !!
