Well the puppy prospect is getting better and better! There were three obstacles: work schedule, landlords, and finances. For work schedule, I learned that lots of people have puppies and work full time. I can come home at least once during the day, and my SIL just moved a few blocks away so I could hire her or her DH to stop over when needed. Then the landlords "talked it over" for a week and said as long as I make another deposit (as I have for each pet, in addition to the security deposit) they saw "no reason NOT to" let me get another dog! But then I wanted to make sure the dogs don't become a financial burden. Right now we do well enough to support ourselves and the two dogs, and we have a line of credit and some other options should an emergency happen, but I didn't want to blow all our savings on the cost of a puppy (and puppy supplies which I don't have). I put out an ad to take on a few more projects this summer, and not only do I have some responses to choose from, I've been offered a part time job 10-15 more hours a week for an on-going thing that I would be in charge of, so I can do it on my own time (I would likely spend a few hours once or twice a week, since I like to get a lot done once I get started). That gives me plenty of room to keep my savings account happy and save for a puppy. The Final Decision is yet to be made, but considering I already have picked a name I really like, it will probably happen. Now I twiddle my thumbs until October...
