Thanks for the replies - DPU, those links and the info you mentioned are really helpful and informative. Re the 4 or 5 days to get into an emaciated state. This chap has been out on the streets as far as I can tell for a good few months. Would see him, then he would disappear (maybe his owner would take him in?), then reappear for a day and gone again - mainly saw him when coming home from work on the night shift.
Callie- Can only guess at his age, but he is definitely in the puppy stage right now - maybe 6-10 months, but I would think food - apart from what he was able to scavenge has been scarce all his life. So his attitude towards food will be hard to predict as well. So far though it has been no problem - give him food and he eats it with no problems. Will eat out of my hand, has not got aggressive if standing near him when he eats and so on. Early days of course but positive signs I hope. And will definitely keep food stored out of his reach! The massage sounds like a good idea - had nt thought of that.
Jojo - would normal yoghurt be ok? The plain stuff you find in the shops - just mix a bit in with his food? Also is that good to give dogs as an ongoing part of their diet?
Jeano - I am a bit concerned about his hind legs, he seems pretty unsteady on them and has given way a couple of times. When he has gone up the stairs there is a bit of a worrying gait there - but that could just be weakness I hope. Fingers crossed.
MiddleEye - no need to apologise. I wish we had things like the SPCA and so on here, is so much work that needs to be done.
And to everyone who mentioned Sam thank you. Sam as a guardian angel - I like that idea.
