Anyone have experience with an online pharmacy?

I'm moving back to my hometown, which is a small salt town on the east coast of FL. One of the things our town lacks is a compounding pharmacy. Pirate's potassium bromide comes from a local compounding pharmacy in a suburb of Orlando, about 20 minutes from where we live now, but when we move next month, it will be over an hour (and 100 miles, round trip) to pick up his meds once a month.

Dr.'s Foster and Smith's website (Thanks Janet_Rose! I didn't know they were a compounding pharmacy!) can fill the prescription for $4 a bottle. Somehow, this doesn't seem right. From the pharmacy it's $45. Even with shipping I'd save a boatload of money, but...I don't know how comfortable I feel with shipping something so important (potassium bromide is what Pi takes in place of phenobarb, for his epilepsy.)

Has anyone had any experience with an online pharmacy? I'll have to talk it over with my vet anyway, since she'd have to release the prescription, but I wanted to see if there were any personal experiences.

I've ordered medications (Atopica) from Fosters & Smith and had no problems. I think they're a very reputable company, so I wouldn't worry. That's pretty amazing about the price difference though.

I have a seizure condition and I got my meds from Canada (CanadaDrugs.com) for over a year. No problem. I have also bought stuff from 1-800-pet-meds. Not a prescription, but they're very reliable.

I also order thru a Canadian pharmacy for myself (Retin A) and have had great luck with it and it's about 1/4 the price of what I'd pay locally.

I think with Drs. Foster & Smith, it's a reputable enough company that you're guaranteed safety.  I've gotten things from Canadian pharmacies online that aren't available here in the US (a type of Prep H that's good for wrinkles - LOL!) but not an actual Rx.  I usually get those through the mail order pharmacy with my health insurance company.

I had to have a prescription for my horse compounded, and my vet told me about Wedgewood.  They were fine, but I don't know how the cost compares. http://www.wedgewoodpharmacy.com/animals/

I called and talked to my vet, and she said that while she hadn't personally used Dr.'s Fosters and Smith, she felt that it was a reputable company and that it should be safe. I feel pretty comfortable with it, now that my vet said it was OK.
