Well......I made a facebook page a couple weeks ago and I realized what a small world it is today. My good friend from medical school added me as a friend and it turns out that my vet was his boss in the narcoleptic doberman lab at stanford lol. She recognized otto in my profile pic and emailed him (she was already his friend ;)). Narcoleptic dobermans lol. I've heard the crazy stories about narcoleptic poodle labs, but dobermans, YIKES. I guess if you get them all excited, they have cataplexy and abruptly collapse and sleep. I also learned she got her PhD from standford not davis. I thought she got both her DVM and PhD from there but no. Anyway, I guess you never know who knows each other lol.

Clip of said Doberman - http://www.null-hypothesis.co.uk/science/item/narcoleptic_dog_doberman_bizarre_condition

Clearly you haven't seen the show that airs on TLC or Discovery or something.  They show video of both the Doberman above and Dachshunds - making reference to how they are tracing the genetics of narcolepsy in both breeds.  What is especially funny is a clip where they say "We don't worry when (insert Dachshund's name here) escapes..." - they play a video of him running down a hallway and then being so excited that he collapses into his narcolepsy episode.  It always makes me laugh!  (Poor dog!)

This isn't the video, but it is relatively "known" on the internet "Rusty" the Doxie... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CY5PMT-_rLg

I tried to track it down online, but haven't found it yet.  Will look later tonight.  It's on one of those learning channel type stations.  I've seen it 2-3 times now over the past couple of years.  (Clearly anything Doberman-related catches my attention.)  The show was centered around genetics.  Wonder if anyone else has seen it...

Awww - this poor Weimy's narcolepsy makes me sad!!!!  Imagine how scared his owners must have been before they got the diagnosis!!

This has been a crazy week but I am so glad hump day is almost over.  Picked up Pru’s soloxine from the vet tonight and keeping fingers crossed this new low thyroid discovery is the reason for her unexplained seizure yesterday.  She was so upset to be separated from JJ this morning and doesn’t understand it is just for her own safety since he tried to attack her during her seizure yesterday. When I got home from work this afternoon she was straining to see me over the barricade I made for her to separate the dogs in different rooms and keep her away from stairs. She was a just going crazy making horrible crying noises at me telling me how upset she is and how happy she is to see me.  Doesn’t help that DH is away on work travel so she is already stressed out.

But the best part of the whole week was the last couple hours.  Took the dogs in with me to the vets to pick up her pills cuz ever since her teeth cleaning a few weeks ago she is now terrified and shakes like a  leaf at the vets. (whereas JJ since his teeth cleaning seems to have decided the vets is his favorite place to be and he loves everyone and jumps on complete strangers there.. his behavior is actually quite embarrassing).  So then we went to burger king drive through as a reward for going to the vets and then to walk Balboa Park.  It was a perfect night there and hardly anyone in much of the park so we walked for close to 2 hours.  It was a great way to spend the evening and now the dogs are so tired that JJ has already gone upstairs to go to bed, despite not even eating dinner yet….lol

    Narcoleptic dobermans lol.

I have never met a narcoleptic dog, but I used to know a narcoleptic SHOW horse! Indifferent  OMG that one scared me. I used to braid him, I kept a crop in my back pocket, and when he started to collapse I would beat him and wake him up (not beat him hard, just didn't want him to fall). I could never have swung my leg over that horse. I remember seeing him keel over. YIKES! Horses come down HARD.
