    Understand the feeling...

It's a shame that they leave us speechless... At that time it's such a shock to hear someone so insensitive. But never too late to say to them that " Do you know how insensitive you were when you said...." but that's only if you care for someone and value a relationship.

I get this same sentiment from my husband's family all the time. My MIL is constantly horrified that we have 5 dogs and lets me know it.  They are a waste of money, dirty, smelly....  Whenever I stop over and I have one of my poodles with me she makes a point of telling me how homely they are.  Nice, huh?  She also makes a point of telling me  that we  could have a lot more if we didn't spend all our money on the 'stupid animals'.  We've been married 28 years so I'm pretty immune to it now, but occasionally it still hurts.  Especially when one of my dogs is sitting there so quiet and sweet, just gazing up at her, and she pushed them away and says how ugly they are.  You really wonder about people sometimes. I really feel sorry for her though. She will never know the absolute, incredible, unconditional love of a dog.  There is nothing like it in the world.

of all people to give advice on canine care!! Miss. Puppy Farmer herself!!

I'm going to cry! I am in the EXACT same boat as you! My cousins breed bullmastiffs. Sweet dogs stupid people!

I hate that they do it. And they tell me how to take care of my dogs! When they sold Max (my golden) back to me (looooong story!)
They had it in the contract that we can't get him neautered! Because they might want puppies! Anyways, The puppie farmers are the ones we should watch out for!

Gee, I think I might have that dog neutered because he developed testicular cancer and HAD to be neutered.Wink

Poodle_luvr I have the same situation here... I wish we had more than 4 years of marriage so I could say it doesn't bother me all those mean comments... Thank God my DH has stepped out and defended Thor and the cats. But I know, deeply that my mother-in-law thinks that is my fault we have them. Like is against the law or something... I feel sorry for her doggies.

    yep.....

same cousin did the same thing - though wasnt a signed contract or anything - she got a new shepherd puppy which meant she couldnt have her other male shepherd.. she was going to take him to the pound when i hit the roof and said he was a perfectly good dog and that he could come live with ME and my family and I would PERSONALLY find him a home that did him justice. she agreed - much to my husband's annoyance lol - the dog was soooo skinny he looked like an abuse case.. supposedly he had spyrokeets or something like that.. but it was funny that all the vets she took him to said he'd gain weight if she'd have him neutered.... when she took him to me she made me agree not to neuter him because she still wanted him as a stud (i wonder if she planned to ask the same thing of the POUND???)

my thoughts were kinda like... ok i'm not a free kennel service.. nor am i stud service.. my job is only to fatten him up, make him healthy and find him a home (he would have stayed with us except he wore out his welcome when he climbed on my husband's mustang after he'd just had it restored and freshly painted, then climbed on his friend's truck, and on our other car - in order to chase cats)

long story short...... i found him a wonderful home!! and guess what?? the girl i gave him to used to work for a vet. she took him for an exam to find out why he was so thin - in spite of any diet- turned out he had an infection in his testicles. once they were removed he gained weight and kept it! no more runny poop, no more nibbling at food, he's recovered totally!

but if my cousin had had it her way he'd still look crap.... when i had him he looked like a rangy coyote the size of a great dane...

YOU ARE A GENIUS! We were trying the think up excuses and ways to have him fixed so my cousins couldn't say anything. I will run it by my mom and see what she says. (it's up to her too.)We thought about getting him a vasectamy (sp) and saying he was just sterail. But I like your idea better!

     again, GENIUS!

Gee what a great lesson we are learning here.  Don't want to live up to a contract all we have to do is lie.  So much for keeping your word.

What a wonderful lesson in morality and not living up to your promises.

Better hope that the people that you have the contract with aren't smart enough to ask for proof or you could have a real good law suit on your hands.

I just said it was a good idea. But we can't do it. My mom dosen't want to lie. Al thought I think in the end it would be for the better on Max's part. But She (my mom) said we could have him neautered after we move. We will be moving to NM. Hopefully by the end of the year.
