I'm sorry, I have no clue about Disney World, but congratulations to you and your son on his accomplishment! You must be very proud!

Now I asked a few times in recent months about Disney World planning...and I got some GREAT advice...check this area back a ways and I will try to dig up the threads I started okay?

Gina (rwbeagles) has a Disney World thread going on that I've typed a ton of stuff for -- essentially those are the two busiest months going.  All the "snowbirds" come down in January, and July is ... well it's "summer" for the rest of the US but in Floorrr-da it's THE hottest month ... only August is worse. 

Both are THE most expensive times to visit and the most crowded. 

October (particularly early October) is a dream -- less crowded and far cheaper.  Late April is probably the next best time expense wise (get at least two weeks PAST Easter to miss the Spring-break rise in prices.)

By mid-May it gets so unbelievably hot all the locals disappear "inside" until about the end of October.  (no joking -- there's virtually nothing going on locally because it's too hot to be outside).

April is also THE best time of the year to get a horrific sunburn -- we're closest to the sun then, and no kidding -- wear sunscreen.  It's not 'hot' yet but you're burned before you knew you were hot.

ARGH! I figured that our schedule limitations would mess us up. Between school and sports we have a lot of blackout dates. The best dates will be when the boys are in school----would skipping school to celebrate academic achievement send a bad message? LOL

We have the same quandry...we are going during school...but she will be taking work with her, and doing it. She'll be in 2nd grade then...so I imagine they'll have plenty for her to do! She definitely will be working on vacation. I had to struggle with it since it IMO doesn't send the best message, BUT...I am going to make sure she is doing her work, and we actually want to enjoy the vacation and not be so incredibly stressed out due to crowds, so...

When my mom was around we used to go on vacations during school.  She would just let the teachers know ahead of time and they would make up a packet of work we needed to get completed while we were out.  It was never a huge issue for us.  Honestly, (probably since I was still doing school work) I never got any kind of a 'message' from it.

We've been to Disney in late January for the past two years, and both times it was very nice.  Not crowded at all.  I don't think we waited longer than ten minutes for anything.  One drawback of going that time of the year, though, is that some of the rides/attractions may be closed down for maintenance or renovation.

I wouldn't even consider going in July/August.

I have NO clue about Disney but I just wanted to add my kudos.  I can see you beaming with pride from here.  Great job, kiddo!!!! 

don't go in july!!! its sosososososososososo hot here! its awful! (and i live in FL lol) i actually got really bad heat sick from going to busch gardens (in tampa) in july. so i wouldnt recomend it! to be honest i think november is a good time to go (maybe thanksgiving break?) it might be a little crowded but i wouldnt think too bad. hope this helps!

First of all, congrats on his accomplishment!

On the skipping school thing...for most of my school years I was a straight A student, like him, and even when I was in elementary school my mom allowed 'mental health days' where I got to stay home, sleep in, that kind of thing, so long as I hadn't been absent due to illness. These were NEVER taken advantage of. Even as I got into HS she would allow me to take one every once in a while. (There were a few she wasn't aware of, in HS, ;) )
