    Welcome our new addition.

Well, about three months ago I posted that I might be bringing home a pomeranian.  Well, he's here!

This dog was brought into our all indoor boarding facility when he was eight months old and never taken home (his brother a ten year old shih tzu came too).  The owner would come in monthly to pay for their stay, but not visit with them.  This past January they were still there and the owner decided she wanted to give them up.  My supervisor, who was in love with the shih tzu, offered to take him and I was asked if I would like to take Benny.  I said yes pretty quickly after talking it over with SO.  Three months go by without anything happening (we need paperwork and such to make it all official).  But finally on thursday night I got to bring little Benny home with me!  Unfortunately Gizzy is still there, but hopefully soon he will be able to go home too. [&o]

Unfortuneately Benny had not seen the outside for one year by now(he's one year and eight months now) (and what he had seen in the past, he probably didn't remember much of anyway since he was so young)and it brought tears to our eyes to watch him take his first steps outside.  He ran in circles on his leash as we walked to the car.  When he got to my house we met up with SO and the other dogs and took a little walk.  Buster and Max had met him before but he was new to Lady.  Everyone did great!

Inside was a different story, and I now know how challenging his training will be.  He tried to walk on the coffee table, sit in our faces while we ate or drank anything, and stairs were obviously new to him (though he flies up and down them like a champ now).  Potty training is going to be a nightmare.  He never really got it down at the boarding facility either, he would always go in his room.

I am so happy to finally give him a home where he can be happy and be loved.  He needs this and he has not stopped smiling now for two days.  [:D]

I will post pictures of him in the photo section if I can get him to sit still long enough for me to take some of him. [;)]

Ohhh, that poor baby--he's so lucky to have found you. Congrats and lots of love and luck!

Aw, he's so lucky and I'm so happy for him.
I can't believe someone would leave their dogs at a boarding facility indefinitiely like that - how completely insensitive to life !  Poor little dudes, I'm so glad they both have homes now.

What an utterly bizarre story. Must have been a divorce or something?

But I'm so happy he's with you - can't wait to see pictures.

Actually, I believe his owner was sick and then got better, but never took them back.  Benny was supposed to be a holistic healing dog but never completed his training.  She now has another dog who I guess is being trained to be a holistic healer [:@]

ETA:  I just posted pics in the photo section.

What a sad story for poor little Benny. But I'm so glad he has you now! The pictures were great! He's such a cutie!

First off.. Benny is so darn cute and LUCKY to have such wonderful new owners. Good for you for adopting this sweet pup especially knowing what a long road you are in for…[sm=bravo.gif]

Second of all Georganne… especially since you and I have talked greyhounds on numerous occasions,  it is weird to hear the story of Benny. My first greyhound was a “boarder” at the grey rescue. Her name was Gumby and she was owned by a guy that apparently adored her and would come up and visit her almost every day to walk her for the first month she was boarded. His mother was ill and had to move in with him so the dog needed to be boarded until the mom got well enough to go home… well 8 months later Gumby was still there and the guy had stopped coming to visit AND hadn#%92t paid then any boarding fees for over 6 months. I was a volunteer at the rescue and thought that Gumby would make a wonderful “pet therapy” dog for the patients I took care of in the hospital so I asked the rescue owners to contact the guy and see if he was gonna take the dog back and if not then I wanted to adopt her.

She was an incredible dog, truly wonderful and initially I felt so sad for her situation, but soon I felt blessed that the guy had given her up. As much as she absolutely loved him, she soon settled into our home and was so appreciative of living in a home with human contact again and daily walks instead of a crate…

I think this will be similar for you.. Benny will settle in probably better than you would ever expect and you will always feel blessed that the folks gave him up…    [:)]

    Thanks everyone!

Thanks Shelly!  It's so strange how similar our stories are.  I just can't believe someone could just give up a pet like this.  Even Benny's brother who is 11 was left behind.  So that means she had him for 10 years and suddenly decided she didn't want him anymore.  I just don't get it.

I feel the same sadness for Benny.  But to finally see him running around with a big smile on his face, I know that I am lucky to have him.  Even SO, who isn't too fond of smaller dogs seems to really like him. [;)]
