Blue's been attacked

I can forgive the first time (accidents happen) but thats not the case here

She may simply not have been able to hold on to him long enough to get him in the house.  I tried to hold on to a German Shepard once - failed miserably!

Wow, this sounds familiar! The same thing happened to me a few years ago with my dog Taxi. It was a very scary experience and I was changed for life - which unfortunately affected my dog too. One big mistake I too made - was picking him during the second attack. He could have probably held his own (the dog was shorter than my 30 pound dog)... and by picking him up... the other dog jumped up and latched onto me... luckily, he only got my shirt... but I'll never forget looking down and spinning around with that dog attached to me. The owners were very confused about what happened (I was completely hysterical crying) until I said, he's a show dog and he's going to the biggest terrier show of the year in two weeks. That woke them up and they actually followed me to the emergency vet... and paid for it.

Taxi was only slightly injured... and even though we now live in a completely different city, I'm always afraid when we go for a walk... which I usually walk both of my dogs together. I stay very alert to my surroundings, constantly looking for loose dogs. I carry pepper spray - but I know it would be almost impossible to actually use it and react in time... I would be busy pulling my dogs away. Sometimes I drive them far away to parks that are basically empty so i don't have to worry. It's sad.

this is terrible!  i hope blue is ok- send some hugs from us.

Well I'm finally have calmed down and got a clear head once again. I still feel like crap that this happen I keep telling my self I should have gone the other way. I don't know what made me keep going that direction I just should have went the other way. Blue's face is a little swelled around the bite, but it's scabbed over healing ok for now.

I'm going to go speak to the lady tomorrow to let her know that Blue was bitten and I'm going to try to find the animal control number for my county.

I know the lady was horrified just as well as I was when her dog attacked Blue. She said she was friendly (before the first attack as she going after her dog) and loved other dogs that this had been the first time that this has ever happen she even had another dog, but it passed away a few days ago. She kept telling me as I walking away that she was so sorry.  As the dog approached us it was wagging it's little stub while Blue was wagging his tail and smiling.


I don't know how the dog got loose the second time it came after us my back was turned so I don't know if the collar broke if it had an adjustable collar or what. I know I shouldn't have picked up Blue when the dog came after us, but it was about 20 ft away from us so I just bent over while Blue jumped in my arms at least I knew not to run. It didn't try to jump up at Blue or even growl while around my legs all I felt it's fat body brush against my legs.

I just don't know what cause the attack or if it was trigged by the women running after her dog as it was approached us that caused it to happen or what or maybe the dog had some aggression problems the lady didn't know.

Aw don't beat yourself up!  I'm sure saying that won't help much though, huh?  I got bit several times Thursday night and keep thinking back, looking for clues and triggers as to why it happened and how it could have been preventing, but hey neither of these incidents were our faults.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder if his playmate passing away has anything to do with it.   I could actually imagine that having an impact on his behavior in the short term.

Don't beat yourself up IS RIGHT!  You were walking your dog...THATS A GOOD THING, so don't start thinking it was your fault. 
I think talking to the lady is a must. Find out her attitude. Tell her that you think you should take your dog to the vet to have his wound looked at. She should offer to pay...I would.
I work at a vet... I can't tell you how many dogs have gotten out of their collars just because they are afraid to get on the scale,,,or don't want to go in the back when being dropped off.
I use a collar on Bubblegum that is a nylon show collar,,,she can't back out of. I really don't understand why people use these collars that their dog can get out of. Maybe this boxer had one of them on.
A few months after I got Bubblegum.. I was walking her with that collar ( it was Easter Sunday), I had just got it thru mail order. I had her on a leash and we were walking in my neighborhood. A couple with a Golden Retriever was on the other side of the street walking the opposite direction.     Bubblegum was pretty new to me...and  we were working on walking nicely.  A week before Bubby and this golden were sniffing noses and making friends while its owner and I were talking,,,and all of a sudden the golden barked and then Bubby did and they both ended up kind jumping and pulling so we said Goodbye and took our dogs home.  So on this Easter Sunday, when we turned the corner and saw the couple with their dog..I told Bubby to be a good girl and wait... as I was pulling her closer to me, to walk next to me.. I accidentally unhooked the leash...Bubby went FLYING across the street after the golden.  I was horrified...I ran as fast as I could, calling her name the whole time. The couple just stood there horrified also.  Bubby kept running circles around that golden and was biting at him everytime she ran by, and the couple kept saying "she is biting him!"  Actually she was not biting him at all,,,she was trying to grab him on her way past...that is the way she plays with all of her toys.   IT didn't matter...I was scared to death,,so where they. I would have been mad if I were them....but it all was fine in the end,,except I was sure mad at Bubblegum. AND it was really my fault since I was the one who let her go. 
When you said that you don't know how the dog got loose the second time....I'm thinking of my story.  Sometimes when we panic,,,we make things worse. I sure did!    The lady might have done something stupid like I did.   Did I learn from that? YOU BET I DID!   I threw away that leash because it opened too easily. 
I hope by talking to her that you feel better about this. I hope she offers to pay a vet bill for you to have that wound looked at.
