You can do several things. First, decide what you want, based on what you like. Remember that some veggies take time to produce, some are quick. Your in Canada so you have what I would term a short growing season, so you could/should start most of your garden with starts as opposed to seeds.
The first thing to do is prepare the ground, then placement of decided plants, I would go to the library and find growing tips for your area, or maybe a garden forum.
Read up on the veggies you like, tomato's need sun and lots of it, lettuce is a "cool" weather plant and does better in the begining of the season and the end, pumpkins take time, zucchini produces like rabbits.....things like that.
